Done 'N Dun Ranch

Done 'N Dun Ranch My horsemanship program focuses on creating a solid foundation of both horse and rider; though my passion will always be barrel racing! Or just try new things?

I have been coaching for 25+ years, always aiming for a positive and supportive atmosphere! Are you looking to improve your riding abilities? Gain confidence on a new or existing mount? I have been riding, training, coaching, judging, and competing for 30+ years. My horsemanship program focuses on creating a solid foundation of both horse and rider, so you will have the knowledge to move forward i

n any discipline. I have successfully coached students to wins in Barrels, 4-H English Equation, 4-H Western Equation, and various levels of Trail events. I have also trained horses that have been successful under me then went on to successful and winning careers with youth riders, both in the show ring and barrels. I take pride in helping students gain confidence, train and develop their personal horses, and learn to ride new styles and acquire new skills. I would love the opportunity to assist you with your horsemanship goals. Call or message me to discuss what you are needing to meet your personal goals.

My horse is mad because she feels like she is ready for this and I am on the road judging. 😂😂😂

This is why good horses do cost money....someone has put the work into it!!!!

I have a couple students currently making their own horses (and these horses started at substantially a lot more than $125 as bloodlines were taken into consideration for long term goals). There has been a lot of sweat equity. Tears. Small breakthroughs. Set backs. They have taken them in stride. And they are coming close to 2+ yrs. Not the top yet. But climbing that ladder. And truly enjoying their partner in the process. It takes time to go out and win.

So I taught a clinic today.....4 hrs of riding. Not a single photo taken. 🤦‍♀️😂 So here's one of Maggie from last year (curtousy of Cheyenne Puls-Witt).

Thank you Kate for the arena and the use of Wheels!

Maggie....you have come so so far, and you and Bruce are really partnering up.

Angela stepped up another notch on her cute little Lucy mare, and was so fun to watch as she's figuring out the next steps in barrels!

And Emily is on a new horse, and new to the area! Talk about a fun individual to see her thinking brain on! In just those 4 hrs, she had so many wins in her riding!

Until the next time all! ❤️❤️❤️

I should really own stock in Cowboy Magic as much as it I go through. The smaller bottles for each trailer, and bigger for at home.

This is by far my favorite detangler for manes and tails.

If we are riding a minimum of 4x/week, what are we working on?

Often, fundamentals.

As you compare equine activities to every other sport, do you scrimmage every day? Or work on drills and exercises that are specifically focused to improve your game?

I personally have conditioning rides that involve long trotting and loping. Lots and lots of each.

I also have rides that involve slow work specifically targeting fundamentals. Circles. Collection. Extension. Leads. Transitions. Working off seat and hand cues. All of these are useful no matter the dissapline.

And some days I incorporate both into my rides with drills specifically working to condition mine and my equine partners response time, while working to strengthen our form and fast twitch muscles.

Am I perfect. Absolutely not. Especially riding with a young child at home, my rides have to be revised, as well as my expectations in the arena, and I am happy to be where I am now at least getting to compete some.

Photo of my not so perfect form....and why you should do as I say, not as I do!

One of the many conversations I have had as a coach is how often do I need to practice? Every ride. And how often do I need to ride? That depends on your goals, but 1 - 2 times per week is not going to cut it. I tell most clients a minimum of 4x/week. Just like any other sport, you have to practice to improve, except now you have a 1000 lb partner that also has to learn your cues and moods, as well as their own skill set, that includes building and conditioning muscles, lungs, and cardio to compete in your activity of choice. This happens over time. And if you want to be competitive, you make the time. I will ride before work or after the sun goes down if needed.

When you have three brave students with absolutely amazing parents that are willing to ride in the wind, you show up!

Thank you Kate for the extra water and work on arena to have it ready and Sandy for checking on it for us! Sam, Brianna and Kate, you are all absolutely amazing moms that are so supportive of the dreams and raising great young women that I will always put extra work and time into when they work so hard and are so receptive to instruction.❤️

We still have spots available for Friday's clinic! Get you and your horse tuned up, then head to Davenport Jr Rodeo, Rolling Hills Rodeo, or one of the several barrel races happening this weekend to test your new skills!

Sterling and I were asked quite awhile ago by a long time client, Stephanie, if we would be interested in escorting her on her first parade outing in Lind for her Dormaier for Auditor campaign as riding in parades can often be intimidating for horses and riders. Sterling could not wait, and was thrilled to be throwing out candy and seeing multiple people he knew in the crowd.

He even enlisted the help of Dove (Stephanie daughter), another client, in blinging up his horse and him with red, white, and blue glitter.
