We are off on a day trip, 600 miles. Taking two gilts and picking up two gilts. I got to name the two new gitls. They will be named after two actresses from a famous 1970 TV show. Can you guess?

Kyle and I were doing some math this evening. Holy cow its going to cost a piggy penny to feed this large round of feeder pigs, 39 to be exact.
We are still trying to determine the number of hogs needed for hog shares, boxes, and individual cuts.
Its not as easy as saying 30 for shares and the rest for boxes and individual cuts. We have to consider storage space, processors availability, cost of processing, and when we get turkeys too.
In order for us to know how many hogs it takes for boxes I have to know what the heck I am putting in them. 😆 I have learned a lot from our first 10 boxes. What worked, what didn't, how much space 10 boxes took in the freezer.
We have a 10 hour drive Friday, so hopefully after the drive we have discussed this a million times to come up with a discussion. I've got to go over Pea Creek Processing dates available in the Fall for hog shares.

2 gilts going to FL. Kyle and I leave Friday in the AM to meet the new owners half way. We are getting two of their gilts! Expanind our herd. Thanks to Country Creatures Veterinary Care for doing their traveling/health papers.

For anyone looking for raw milk or Buttermilk check out Louderbranch Farms Page. I think Kyle will need to make a trip for me and grab some Buttermilk. He wants homemade onion rings. I bet that Buttermilk would make amazing onion rings.

We have started carrying raw milk from Southern Oaks Jerseys. The gallons are $8.00 and the buttermilk is $6.00.

Tonight for dinner I want to have Brown Sugar Pork Steak with candied carrots and new potatoes and onions. Why not since I have all of the ingredients at our farm grown by us.
I didnt thin out my carrots so I lots of baby carrots which will be perfect for dinner. Potatoes and onions are still growing but these will be just right for dinner!

A big thank you to everyone that weathered the rain to come see us today. We had a great day at Keaton Farms. Thanks to April Barker Keaton for treating us vendors with so much kindness. She had soup for us. Which was great on a rainy day.
