Native plant spotlight: Hairy Aster, or Frost aster (Symphyotrichum pilosum) is blooming everywhere right now, and the honeybees are loving it. It looks like very tiny daisies. The flowers are only the size of your fingernail, but they are feeding the pollinators in force right now.

The real reason we love this plant is it's fun name. We like to pause in the middle of the word Aster. Try is out loud. Hairy As*ter! Bet that makes you smile. 😅😀

We don't want to use something like Breast Cancer Awareness Month to sell products. So, instead, I'll use this pretty pink relish to tell you something you may already know.

1 in 8 women will develop an invasive breast cancer in her lifetime. And 25% of women who get breast cancer will be under 50 years old. Monthly self checks and annual screenings are still the best way to detect it early. And early detection offers the best rate of survival.

If you are a woman over 40, or at higher risk at a younger age, or know someone who is, get screened and encourage others to do the same. This cancer will claim over 40,000 women this year alone. Get screened and stay well.

And if you are intrigued by the pink jars . . . It's Rosy Radish Relish. Great on deviled eggs, or to add some color to your charcuterie board. Have a great day and schedule those mammograms!

We are all set up at the Gloucester Farmers Market at Historic Ware Church. Come out and see us. We are here until 1pm.

Saturday is going to be a lovely day, so get out to the Gloucester Farmers Market at Historic Ware Church and enjoy it before the storm hits us on Sunday. Milby Farm will be there along with about 50 other local vendors.

We will have salsa, pickles and dilly beans. Fig jam, goldenrod jelly and apple peel jelly. We still have plent of your favorites, like blueberry jam and elderberry jelly. And, of course, zucchini bread.

We hope to have a few fresh veggies to. Come out and enjoy a beautiful day with your favorite local farmers. Hope to see you there 9am to 1pm!

We have struggled to get our salsa "spicy" with just Jalapeno peppers. But friend of the farm Paul hooked us up with locally-grown Habaneros this week. Afraid to make it too hot, I cleared most of the seeds, but it turned out perfect.

Native plant spotlight: Goldenrod (Solidago). It's blooming everywhere now. Often blamed for allergies, this plant is anti-inflammatory and has been used in wound care. The pollen of this plant is quite large and cannot move by wind, so it depends on insects for pollination. Ragweed that blooms at the same time, is what is making you sneeze right now!

Drinking a Goldenrod tea has many benefits. And Liberty Tea was made from it after the Boston Tea Party. 10 species of native bees and over 100 species of butterflies and moths depend on this plant. It is also providing our honeybees with vital fall nutrition.

And what do we do with all this goldenrod? We make jelly, of course. It has a bittersweet taste that is unlike any other jelly we make. Pick up a jar at our next event and try it for yourself!

As of right now, we are still planning to be in Irvington VA - VIA Events tomorrow from 9am to 1pm. But if the weather starts moving in early, we will likely choose to stay home.

Thus week, grab muscadine jelly, beautyberry or goldenrod jelly or apple peel jelly. Also still have plenty of blueberry jam and elderberry jelly. We also have salsa and dilly beans, along with other great items.

We will not be bringing any veggies tomorrow. We apologize for any inconvenience. Fingers crossed the rain holds out until 2 and hope to see you tomorrow!
