Sharpening the cutter on a clipper blade to clean up the cutting surface and restore a crisp edge.

A few careful passes on the sharpening plate can make a big difference when a blade starts feeling dull or dragging through hair.

Clipper blades take a beating over time. Hair, dirt, heat, and regular use slowly wear the cutting surfaces down until they start pulling, dragging, or just not cutting as cleanly as they used to. In this video, I’m showing part of the process I use to sharpen clipper blades and bring them back to a smooth, usable edge.

A good sharpening can make a big difference in how the blade performs and can save you from replacing blades that still have plenty of life left in them. I sharpen clipper blades for customers throughout the Sun Prairie and Madison area, along with knives, scissors, and a wide range of other cutting tools.

This knife had a seriously chipped and uneven edge, so the goal was to straighten it out and make it usable again. Not a full restoration, but definitely a solid improvement.

There was some pretty severe pitting in the blade that I simply couldn’t grind past without removing too much material, so a few small chips remain where that pitting reaches the edge. It may not be perfect, but it’s straight, sharper, and slicing a whole lot better than when it came in.

Your mower blade probably isn’t dull because it “needs a little touch up.” It’s dull because it has been smashing into grass, dirt, sticks, and whatever else was hiding in the yard.

Sharpening lawn mower blades with a bench grinder can bring that edge back quickly, but getting the angle right and balancing the blade afterward matters.

Don’t want to mess with it? Bring yours by and I’ll sharpen and balance it for you.

Sharpening up a pizza rocker — also called a mezzaluna-style pizza cutter.

These wide curved blades are designed to rock back and forth through a pizza, but just like any other cutting edge, they eventually lose their bite.

Here’s a look at the sharpening process as I restore the edge and get this one ready to slice cleanly again.

Yes — I sharpen these too. 🍕🔪

This Ketuo Yakuza is definitely not subtle. Carbon fiber, purple titanium accents, and one of the more interesting blade profiles you’ll see on an EDC folder.

It’s available now — if this one speaks to you, check it out here:

Removing the lanyard loop from this Victorinox Swiss Army knife at the customer’s request. They preferred a cleaner, smoother profile without the unused attachment point sticking out from the end of the knife.

Victorinox collectors, what do you think—does this make the knife cleaner and more practical, or is grinding away an original part something you hate to see? I don’t see this modification done very often, so I’m curious whether you would remove the lanyard loop from your own Swiss Army knife.

This old pair of scissors came in rusty, dull, and barely usable. I cleaned them up, removed as much corrosion as possible, sharpened the blades, and adjusted them so they cut properly again.

They may not look brand new, but they are sharp, functional, and ready to get back to work.
