While people no longer have to worry about “putting up food for the winter “, ranchers still follow the age old traditions of planning for winter feed for the animals.

Here in the high desert, we irrigate but rain definitely dramatically improved our yields.

Hopefully irrigation water doesn’t get short with this drought and we can still have some fall grazing.

Screwworm has been getting a lot of attention lately, but risk levels aren’t the same everywhere. While ranchers in Texas and areas like Florida are most at risk, Oregon ranchers/cattle aren’t facing the same concerns. Staying informed is one of the best tools we have for protecting our livestock.
