Our mission at McCarty Farmstead is pretty simple:
We specialize in sustainable and regenerative farming practices to raise healthy and happy livestock, rebuild our soil, and supply our community with wholesome and nutritious protein.
Let's break that down:
We believe in sustainable and regenerative farming practices that build healthy soil instead of depleting it. We utilize practices like rotational grazing, multi-species grazing, and natural manure management to improve the health of our soil and pastures.
We believe livestock should be raised with plenty of green space, fresh air, sunshine, and the ability to live as naturally as possible, just as God intended.
We believe healthy animals start with healthy soil. When our pastures are healthy and full of life, they provide better nutrition for our animals. In turn, our animals help fertilize the soil, cycle nutrients, and contribute to the health of the land. It’s all connected.
We also believe in being intentional about what goes into our animals. We do not use growth hormones or antibiotic growth promoters, and we feed locally grown, non-GMO grain to the livestock that receive supplemental feed. When our animals need medical care, we believe in treating them appropriately and doing what is best for their individual health and well-being. Taking good care of our animals will always come first.
We believe raising livestock is a responsibility. These animals depend on us for their care, and we take that responsibility seriously. We want them to have a good life, access to what they need, and to be treated with respect every step of the way.
We believe food should be something you can feel good about feeding your family. We do this because we want to know how our animals are raised, what they are fed, and how they are cared for. And we want our customers to have that same confidence when they buy from us.
We believe in keeping food local whenever we can. There is something pretty special about knowing the farmer who raised your food, knowing where it came from, and keeping your food dollars in your own community.
Most importantly, we believe farming is about stewardship. We’ve been given this land, these animals, and the opportunity to feed our community, and we want to do our best with all three.
We’re not trying to be the biggest farm, and we certainly aren’t doing this to make a quick buck. We’re trying to build a farm that leaves the land better than we found it, takes good care of our animals, produces food we’re proud to put on our own table, allows us to make an honest living for ourselves and future generations, and can hopefully continue to provide for our community for generations to come.
