Strawberries are slowly starting to ripen and we'll start picking them over the next few days. You may see a few pints in the farm store this weekend - we're probably 7-10 days out from having a more steady supply in the farm store. Strawberries are a labor intensive crop in organic production - we plant them the year before for the following years fruit. We w**d them weekly as we do not use plastic mulch. We mulch them in the late fall with straw. We never use herbicides or pesticides. We focus on older varieties that are known for their flavor. We water if we need to, but we don't pump them full of water regularly. This results in a smaller, more flavorful fruit. They are a special, seasonal treat and we hope you love them as much as we do. The price reflects the amount of time, resources, and work that go into them - we know it isn't cheap, but this is the real cost of food. If we want local farms to be viable, we need to shift our understanding of food costs as a culture.

Save the date! We’re hosting monthly community potlucks here at the farm as a way to connect with our neighbors over good food. Because isn’t that what this is all about? We love growing food for our community - and we want to share a meal with you! Saturday, June 27th from 4-6pm. Bring a dish made with something from the farm. This is an easy going, casual event - just come as you are! Bring a friend, bring your family!
