Have you tried our muskmelons?! 🍈🍈🍈

We grow five different varieties of orange flesh muskmelons. Did you know that all cantaloupes are muskmelons, but not all muskmelons are cantaloupes? We choose varieties that are tried and true New England workhorses. We harvest them when they are perfectly ripe, guaranteed! Each one has their own unique flavor profile, but we can confidently say that each one is juicy and sweet as can be. The only silver lining of a summer drought is the melon crop - they tend to do best in drought years. Stop by and try for yourself! We’re serving samples all day.

Peak summer is here! We have new things coming out of the field every week. The farm store is loaded with muskmelons, carrots, beets, onions, summer squash, zucchini, tomatoes, BEANS! (Green, wax, purple and dragons tongue!), shelling peas, pepper, eggplant, broccoli, lettuces, cabbage, herbs, and more. Keeping your food dollars in your local community is one of the best small actions we can take. Everything is certified organic and grown by us here at Spear Spring Farm. Fresh alliums that are coming out of the field and into the farm store:

Sweet onions! 🧅 Classic and distinct, these are mild onions that are best used fresh. Great in all ways, raw or cooked!

Red Tropea Onion! Specialty onion traditionally grown in Mediterranean area. Best used fresh. A mild and sweet red onion.

Shallot! Fresh shallots have a more distinct but mild flavor compared to cured shallots. For fresh use, use the tops as well.

We also have fresh garlic in the farm store this week. It also has a more distinct yet mild flavor. Think: more flavor, less sharp. These won’t hold on your counter like cured garlic, so best to keep it in your fridge.

Fresh onions are in! Our red tropea and sweet onions were a favorite for many of you last season. We also have the first eggplants, lots of tomatoes, summer squash, zucchini, Fresh garlic, lettuces, herbs, snap peas, shell peas, and more. We’re running bulk sales on shell peas - 5lb bags for $20! You can freeze them and enjoy this winter. Bulk sales on summer squash and zucchini, too.
