Recently, we've been catching windows between rain to plant 95 more trees in our pasture.

Since converting this land back from corn-and-soybean fields to perennial pasture seven or so years ago, we've been working hard to continually make it better with careful rotational grazing, management of the forage mix and invasive species, and additions of lots of trees and birdhouses.

This year, we're planting red oaks, silver maples, hybrid poplars, and wild plums. Claire is handy with a dibble!

Sometimes, when we're just racing through the days, it's easy to feel like we're always playing catch up, just getting by instead of making progress.

But sometimes, when I'm driving down this last road to our farm, I'm struck by all the big things we've changed here over the last 6 seasons.

In this picture alone: the addition of the wetland. Fencing back around the fields, which means animals back on the land. Less big equipment in the big hoop shed; more hay, instead, for cattle. A new winter shelter for our laying hens. Four mobile chicken trailers, vs. the one tiny shed we started with. A hog building retired from production and remodeled into a warehouse. More trees. More green.

And that's just the start. As we race back into the start of the busy season, I'm heartened to reflect on all these good changes and look toward all we have planned for this season. We will have a lot to share this year! Thank you for being part of it. You eating our food is what makes it possible!

New baby, new homes, new family members moved back to the farm, new puppy, new products, new partnerships…the last year was wild!

We’ve been working on recovering, catching up, and planning for the year ahead as we settle into all the changes the last year brought for our farm and family.

One thing I feel so grateful for is that, amidst all these changes, you were very consistent. You kept showing up with kind words and coolers, bringing our food home to put on your tables. I am so grateful!

Looking forward to the season ahead (and maybe some more regular updates from us?? 😅).
