You never know what you're going to hear when you ask Claire and Brian, "what are you doing today?"
My dad is famous for responding to this question with "oh, a little of this, a little of that," which feels totally annoying for planning purposes, but also, honestly, I get it. When you have livestock and equipment and weather in the mix, you never know what you may find when you wander outside.
After lunch, for example, they stopped first to clean out a cow waterer that sank into the mud with all this rain and made a nice little mess.
Claire then made a quick sweep through the cattle to spray them with essential oils, a natural mix they use to help with fly control (has to be re-applied whenever it rains).
After this lovely farm spa treatment (mud + essential oils!), she's off to make feed for our pigs and set up cattle fencing so they can move to their next sections of the pasture. Brian, meanwhile, headed on to work on a tractor that broke down when we were in the middle of loading pigs in the early morning hours this week. Farming is fun! 😄 (but for real, it is)
