Today is monumental!!! The last load of rotten timbers and lumber from the old collapsed milk barn is going to the dump today! We did it!! Thank you Tony Howlett for taking it after work today.
We bought our place in May 2020, so 6 years ago! Crazy! Anyway.... when we bought this place it was a mess. Crushed and delaputated fences, junk everywhere, etc. There was also this massive milk barn for cows that had fallen (who knows when) and was laying in a massive heap in the back pasture. We have been working to remove it since day one. We have had amazing friend come and help from time to time including Travis and Pam Gaworski Volkman, Maura Dixson and her family, Aurora Anderson, Ethan Baillargeon, and I am sure more over the years. We have re-purposed/rehomed any usable barn wood or timbers. Ya'll there was some seriously cool pieces in there but dang!!! It was some serious work and expense to get to it. We had MULTIPLE construction dumpsters, burned what we could, and hauled countless loads to our local dump.
What a chore! It was a huge job. We did it!! Thank you to all that helped, to all that came out and dug through the piles for your projects. Some of the things that I know were built out of this old barn are:
Wet bar for wedding
Multiple hearths/mantles for fireplaces
Shiplap siding for restaurant
Benches
Tables
Clocks
Other wood working
Pole barns
We asked many of the local residents about this old barn and compiled its history the best we could. For every person that came and got wood from it we passed on its story and dates. This exceptional building will live on in the memories of many.
