Small Island is a tiny wine label that’s turned heads since it began. Tasmanian native, James Broinowski, has gone south of Hobart to source fruit for this chardonnay. It hums with purity, a trademark of great Tassie wines.

There’s a lovely purity to the fruit on the nose that excites: raw honey, freshly picked white nectarines, fresh ginger and almonds. The core is brimming with stone-fruits and sweet spice, while a spine of acidity enlivens the flavours with great energy.

This is an engaging chardonnay, it tastes like it’s giving an X-ray-like vision to where it’s grown. And that’s a great thing. (Screwcap)
