Most of the time we only see flax in its processed form: as seeds or as linen! But did you know it is a beautiful plant as well? While we wait for the seeds to mature, we get to enjoy the whimsical blue flowers (and so do the bees!)

We are starting to thresh our mature crops while more are growing in the field!

First up are chives, which only require some light tapping to release the seeds from the plant. Threshing is just the first step in getting these seeds ready to package. Next we will have to "clean" them and separate the seeds from the chaff (leftover plant material).

Are there any other seeds you are curious to see how we thresh?

With the warm weather we have been experiencing on Vancouver Island we are already harvesting and preparing some early crops! Our native Red Elderberry is one of the first things we are threshing.

Red Elderberry is a beautiful shrub with stunning flowers and red berries that are great for attracting pollinators and birds to your home. Here Fiona demonstrates how we get the seeds from each of those bright red fruits!

Our 2026 growing season is in full swing! How many plants do you recognize?

We already have over 50 varieties growing for our seeds or dormant roots and tubers (and won't be able to resist adding a few more before the season is over). We only sell what we grow ourselves, guaranteeing all our products are 100% organic and 100% Canadian! Happy 2026 gardening!

Here’s a behind-the-scenes peek at what selecting new plant varieties looks (and tastes) like!

Our different Mizuna, or mustard greens, types have crossed and grown into a delightful assortment of textures, colour, and flavours. Now the fun part is to find the ones we like the best and keep them for seeds.

When you grow one of our mixed seeds packages, you can do this at home and develop your very own plant variety!
