A small bit of housekeeping around here (the digital kind - the actual house remains questionable).

For a long time, Field Notes and I have shared one little corner of the internet. Which made sense, because in the beginning it was very difficult to tell where I ended and the farm began.

Honestly, it still is sometimes.

But Field Notes is growing into something with an identity of its own - a nursery, cutting gardens, a place rooted in nature, design, and the belief that beauty can help us feel a little more connected to the world and to each other.

And I’ve realised I’d quite like a little corner to be Marie, too.

So, we’re gently separating the two.

FIELD NOTES • Nursery & Cutting Gardens will become more distinctly Field Notes - the gardens, the flowers, the plants we’re growing and learning from, the people who gather here, and (increasingly!) an unreasonable number of irises.

And over at Marie Caroline I’ll be sharing more of the things that catch my attention beyond the garden rows - nature, poetry, books, motherhood, creativity, beautiful things, ordinary life, and whatever else is currently rattling around in my head.

There will be plenty of overlap. Of course there will!
Field Notes has grown out of the things I care about, and I suspect we’ll always be tangled up together.

We’re just giving each of us a little more room to grow.

A touch of cream and blue for Sarah & Paul’s late August wedding 🤍

The couple picked up their personal and reception flowers - and also took a few buckets to DIY their ceremony decor.

Digging up/dividing iris rhizomes this week- and remembering all the beauty these gifted us in Spring 💫

The advances in irises hybridization are so fascinating. I remember the standard bright purple irises of my childhood and am awestruck by the colour play now available in commercial varieties.

🧬 In my non-farm job, I work in genetics. I’ve been thinking a lot about the genetics of bearded Iris and how I’d love to try hybridizing some field notes varieties - my new dream 🌈

I’ve been shy to say that aloud, but I’m putting it out there!!!!

Growing lisianthus is the bane of my existence. You have to start the seedlings in 1984 and water them with your children’s tears.

But it’s so worth it!!!
