Makenzie is a USHJA accredited instructor and the winner of the 2021 and 2022 USHJA barn challenge. We also offer rehabilitative services alongside our unique training approach. "Scooter" gathered Mustang we bought for a client last year from Sally Parkwood . He was a part of the inmate/mustang program and had some miles trail riding, working cows etc with limited arena riding. When I brought him home last year he stayed in training for two months but has not done much since. Last month he came back for a refresher with Cecily Perkins. I have been stepping in the last couple weeks while she is away taking care of family. I am so impressed by this guy's ability to process and think about his surroundings as well as process what is being asked. This is a KIND/trying horse even when he would rather have another agenda or doesnt understand.. 🐎

Another long week landed me with the flu (again🙄)this weekend. So been taking it easy after finishing Saturday lessons. On a happier note I was able to capture some great rides on client horses with pivo. I dont always set it up but fun when I do! This is 5yo connemara gelding Fritz finishing up 30 days of getting started over fences. In truth there are a lot of other things to work on for this guy so he did very little jumping, but he enjoys it and as a sport pony it comes naturally to him.

This week has been heavy... the distraction of working 8 horses a day plus lessons has been welcome. As always Bunny provides light to my chaotic life making each day a little brighter. 2nd time jumping... Hug all your loved ones a little more this week 4 legs and 2 legs! ❤️

We had some spontaneous excitement this afternoon. We live in a rural area which means that sometimes emergency Helicopter needs a place to land (I am thankful we have an emergency Helicopter). This time it landed at our neighbors but last time it landed next to our round pen (let me tell you... they suck stuff up when taking off!). In ten minutes we had turnout ponies inside everyone munching on hay and I took post in the field to help keep the babies calm. Everyone handled it like yesterday's news!

Always a pleasure visiting friends at Double Rafter C and having a lesson with Noah Cornish. I got to practice and learn a little more with the rope today and Worthy got to learn a new exercise. She was stellar. You would not know it was the same horse reacting to everything half way across the ring like last time. She was her attentive self but also relaxed with a fair amount of self down regulation going on.
Cannot wait to be back in a few weeks with Bunny 🐰 for the Alicia Landman /Melonie Smith Taylor clinic.

Fritz, a 5yo connemara came to me for training and to be started over fences 2 weeks ago. This guy seems to have a good mind and be pretty willing but occasionally puts on the brakes about something and can escalate the situation. Last week when I took him on the trail course he was a little unsure of the bridge, but very willing when I got off and introduced it to him on foot first. A day or two later when I introduced him to the tarp it was a hard no for him and even produced some anxiety. I spent what time I could getting him to inch closer and think about touching with his nose. I made a mental note to come back to the tarp at a later date when I had more time as well as developed more of a relationship. With the weather; today seemed like the perfect day to work on this. Despite LOTS (thanks to Bunny and Kitty and my mom's dogs) of outside distraction, we were able to achieve calmly and confidently walking across the tarp in both directions without a lot of push from me (besides leaving the grass alone). I feel these things are important not only to give a horse self confidence but also confidence in all things we ask of them... from a jumping standpoint down the line this could be a liverpool. Maybe next time I will remember to set up my new pivo to record the whole process! 🤣
