Cooler weather is here, and you know what that means… CANDLE SEASON!

We know it’s been a little too hot to think about burning candles lately, but now that those crisp fall days have finally arrived, it’s time to restock your favorites!

We’ve just received a fresh shipment of hand-poured soy candles from Light Breeze Candle Co, made right here in Snow Camp!

Welcome to another episode of “Jobs We Didn’t Need Help With!”

We have moved on from incredibly unhelpful Jerseys to the incredibly unhelpful turkey edition.

Farmer Dave was changing the oil when the turkeys caught wind of the operation and immediately reported for duty. Mechanics they are not!

Zero experience, zero qualifications, but absolutely no shortage of enthusiasm! 😂

The first part of the video is Beth’s point of view, documenting the unsolicited assistance. The second is Farmer Dave’s point of view, where you can see just how seriously the turkeys took their supervisory responsibilities.

If you live near the farm and heard a loud commotion last night, we would like to explain.

It was getting late. Beth and Kate were already in their pajamas and winding down for the evening. Farmer Dave—thankfully NOT in his pajamas, because no one needs to see that—was pulling the tractor out of the field, while Beth was on gate duty.

Enough said.

Somewhere in the ex*****on of these duties, Bossy seized her opportunity and embarked on a romantic moonlit stroll…

…down Snow Camp Road.

Chaos ensued.

Kate ran out to help, and Magnus, never one to miss an exciting family event, also decided to join the party in the road. Fortunately, Beth yelled at him and he immediately returned to safety like the very good boy he is.

And all the screeching you may have heard?

That was Kate.

In the frenzy, she ran shin-first into the pallet forks on the tractor.

Meanwhile, Bossy was continuing her journey down Snow Camp Road. Farmer Dave crossed to the opposite side so Bossy wouldn’t think he was chasing her, which resulted in what he later described as the two of them “competing in the Bovine Kentucky Derby.”

Kate disputes this description of events.

According to her, Bossy’s “top speeds” included periodically stopping to sn**ch mouthfuls of grass out of the ditch while Farmer Dave desperately tried to catch up.

So now Dave and an injured Kate are hobbling down Snow Camp Road after a 900-pound cow, while Beth watches from behind as cars routinely fly around the curve and over the hill.

In the words of a dear friend, she could only mutter:

“It was a prayin’ time.”

Fortunately, most drivers slowed down when they encountered a cow and two farmers making their way down the road. There was, however, one notable exception who maintained top speed as though this were simply part of the normal evening scenery on Snow Camp Road.

They finally caught up with Bossy just as she was strolling into the neighbors’ yard.

The BRAND-NEW neighbors.

Because apparently there is no better way to welcome a new family to the neighborhood than by chasing your escaped cow into their yard while wearing your finest Grinch pajamas.

Bossy was retrieved, everyone survived, and eventually they all made it to bed.

And Bossy?

She strolled right into the milk shed this morning like absolutely nothing had happened.

No remorse. No explanation. Just another day at Towering Oaks Farm.

Tom has assigned himself to light duty for a while and will be taking it easy by greeting customers at the door after his latest “medical emergency” last week. 😂

He’d been having an upset stomach and looked like he was losing weight, so naturally we feared the worst.

Diagnosis: obsessive grooming during summer shedding, a hairball, and an excessive desire for attention.

Thankfully, it wasn’t anything more serious, and we’re glad our favorite store greeter should be with us for a good while yet. ❤️ For now, Tom will be accepting pets, compliments, and sympathy at the front door.

P.S. Thanks to Dr. Heizer and everyone at Tri-County Veterinary Service for your patience with our apparently hypochondriac pets. 😂
