We’re equal parts tired because we gave it everything and sad because it gave us so much back. 🧡

That’s a wrap on our 2026 farmstand season, friends.

The weather is turning, the gardens have given us everything they could, and the oven could use a rest.

Thank you for every Thursday through Saturday visit, every bag of veggies, every loaf, every cinnamon roll, every “see you next week.”

You made this season as special and incredible as it was.

This October, we’re taking a well-deserved breather to soak up the last glorious weeks of fall as a family. But don’t worry, we’re not going far:

🥩 Protein ordering just got easier, with streamlined ordering right on our website and several pick up locations throughout Guildhall, Lyndonville, and Burke🍞 Our beloved Sourdough CSA is just about to peek her head out and begin in November❄️ And fingers crossed: we’ve applied to be a vendor at the Caledonia Winter Farmers Market in St. Johnsbury so that we can see all your beautiful faces on a regular basis!

Sometimes the best lessons aren’t learned at a desk, but rather in a field.

We were so honored to have Thaddeus Steven’s School come spend the morning with us at the farm yesterday! We learned all about how regenerative farming makes the soil better and how each aspect of our farm, from pigs to cattle to chickens to grazing practices, plays a role in making that happen.

Growing season and CSA starting to wrap up…

…seems like the perfect time to ::checks notes:: add a new little pup to the mix 🤪

No, but for real, we’ve been thinking and looking for the right doggo to join our crew for the last 6 months and then this little lad appeared in my circle and he just… fit.

Meet River.

When we first started farming, our mentors gently cautioned: “just know that not everyday on a farm is a good day.”

Yesterday we very suddenly and unexpectedly lost our beloved Highland, Katherine. She was my absolute favorite: sweet, gentle, trustworthy, steady; an earth angel in Highland form.

To farm the way we do is to accept an honor and a responsibility: to be the guardians of these animals. It means giving them a life of dignity and meeting their passing with that same reverence.

As farmers, we stand *very* close to the seam where life and death meet, closer than most people ever do.

We don’t look away either.

That closeness, that intimate link to the cycle of life, that sacred connectedness, is the whole point.

When a new calf is born into our herd, the Highlands gather around to bear witness. Yesterday, they did the same for Katherine, circling close, watching over her and us.

Now her three-month-old, little Sully, looks to us. We will tend to her, giving her the grace, dignity, and guardianship she deserves. She’ll be bottle-fed by hand several times a day, brought into our barn and maternity pen for the next few days as she adjusts. Soon, we will introduce & partner her with Maisie, one of our sweetest and kindest heifers, who’ll become her companion and guide, teaching her how to go on being a Highland, until she’s ready to rejoin the larger fold.

And then the whole herd will mother her.

Highlands live in a matriarchy, at least as far as I can tell, where one calf belongs to everyone. They take turns watching over each others babies.

Rest easy, sweet Katherine. Your wee lass is in good hands.
