We are deeply saddened by the passing of Rhonda Carano, co-founder of Ferrari-Carano Vineyards and Winery.

Rhonda and her husband, Don, discovered Sonoma County in 1979 while searching for wines for their Eldorado Hotel in Reno. Captivated by the land, they purchased an Alexander Valley vineyard and began making wine in their barn. In 1981, they founded Ferrari-Carano, building it through hard work, integrity, and an uncompromising commitment to quality.

Second-generation Italian-Americans, Rhonda and Don believed wine was meant to be shared with family and friends. Don brought pioneering vision; Rhonda gave the winery its warmth and soul. Her extraordinary eye shaped Villa Fiore, the Enoteca, and the beloved gardens whose tulips still welcome each spring.

Following Don’s passing in 2017, Rhonda carried their work forward with strength and grace. Their legacy lives on in the vineyards, wines, gardens, and spirit of hospitality they created.

Our hearts are with the Carano family and everyone touched by Rhonda’s life.
