On our second day of the Global AVA Summit in Badacsony, we all gave presentations about our wine regions, discussed climate change, marketing, tourism, economies and winemaking and then the visiting wineries got to pour our wines for the Hungarian wineries. Super fun and productive day!

We are visiting the premier wine region of Badacsony in Hungary for the 2026 Global AVA Summit.
Badacsony is a premier Hungarian wine region on the northern shore of Lake Balaton. It is known for its gorgeous aromatic mineral-driven white wines with balanced, crisp fresh acid. Their signature varietal is Olaszrizling and a rare varietal called Kéknyelű, which is only found and grown in Badacsony on 48 hectares and cannot self-pollinate, so it has to be planted next to one of 2 specific varietals, one of them being Rozsako. The terroir is known for its volcanic basalt soil and steep vineyards, and climate challenges include high temps and low rainfall, although recently the weather has varied each year. This is amazing - the wine region was founded by the Roman Emperor Probus in the 3rd Century, 276 - 282 AD! We had to laugh since our wine region is only 186 years old.

We were greeted by the local winemakers when we arrived with a tasting of their wines. Our travel group also included winemakers and representatives from the Loire Valley in France, Croatia, Italy and Texas Hill Wine Country.

These are just a few of the wines we tasted, but we were able to visit several of the wineries later on during our trip.

We are representing the Livermore Valley Wine community at the Global AVA Summit this week in Hungary, Budapest. The was established in 2025 to create a beneficial and sustainable alliance of partner wine regions across the globe. The goal is to promote collaboration and exchange of information and ideas between winemakers, wine associations, government representatives, tourism and economic development organizations, and business associations. Representatives of the partner wine regions actively participate in professional development opportunities through discussions about winemaking techniques and sustainability methods, student and professional intern exchanges, and sharing of best practices around economic development, agri-tourism and marketing initiatives to elevate the global presence of the participating wine regions, among other opportunities. We are excited and proud to represent at the Summit this year!

Jeff Tamelier and David Martin are teaming up for an epic show Saturday night! You can enjoy wines by the glass or bottle, and there’ll be delicious hibachi meals from Quake Catering. The seating is open in our barrel room, so come on down and let’s rock out together! Just a heads up, outside alcohol is strictly prohibited.

It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of our good friend Kirk from our favorite band, Toucan Jam, who passed away on November 13.  I know many of you have been asking about him and praying for him. He and Ken have brought so much fun, laughter and love to so many people at the winery and around Livermore. Such an incredible guy.

We love and miss you so much, Kirk. RIP buddy. We will see you again, so be ready to fight for our right to party ❤️❤️❤️💃🏻🕺
