Let's dive into diseases!
Disease of the Day: Crohn's Disease
How many of you have been diagnosed with this debilitating disease, or know someone who has? What treatments or lifestyle changes have helped?
Crohn's disease is a chronic form of inflammatory bowel disease, or IBD. It occurs when an abnormal immune response causes inflammation in the digestive tract. It can affect any area from the mouth to the a**s, although it commonly affects the small intestine and colon.
Symptoms may include:
Persistent diarrhea
Abdominal pain and cramping
Fatigue
Reduced appetite and weight loss
Fever or blood in the stool
Crohn's can also cause serious complications, including malnutrition, intestinal narrowing, abscesses, and fistulas. Symptoms often alternate between active flares and periods of remission.
What Does the Science Say About C*D?
C*D interacts with the body's endocannabinoid system, which is involved in pain perception, appetite, intestinal movement, immune signaling, and other functions. Laboratory and animal research suggests that cannabinoids may influence inflammatory pathways. Small human studies of cannabis products have reported improvements in some patient-reported symptoms and quality of life.
Some people may use C*D as a complementary wellness product and report relief of discomfort, stress, sleep problems, or appetite issues.
