I may end up posting some grown chickens here soon. They will be as pure bred groups only (including rooster). 2-3 hens and one roo per group. Can’t guarantee the hens are currently laying (there is a whole lotta chickens out there together that lay the same color eggs) but signs point to yes. Just thinking with the way hatching egg sales have gone this year that it wouldn’t hurt to downsize a smidge. And I may end up taking them to swaps before officially posting them, because I would absolutely rather get them gone while I’m there rather than trying to figure out a day/time/place to meet someone.

I took these like a week ago, and forgot to post. So bear with me, each of Shady Brook’s Blind Luck’s 7 kits sired by CW’s CW5N1 “Magnus” are being posed here. Who is your favorite/s from what you can see at this young age? PS - these are Rex if you’re new here.

I made sure to crop out my face this time because my opinion of a couple of them definitely shone through in my expression 😂.

I’m also loving this doe so far, and hoping she continues to look nice by the time I can really evaluate (mid July is 10 weeks which is when I shoot for first evals). I have a feeling this is the unofficial year of the dilutes for me 😅.

I’m definitely looking forward to how this guy will grow out. And crossing my fingers and toes that he ends up carrying nonextension instead of brindle 😅. He’s gotta carry one of the two. Would also be fabulous if he carries chocolate & white but I’m asking for a lot with that triple whammy.

This is my keeper out of Shady Brook’s Cassiopeia’s litter sired by Harengon’s Sully.

Finally home as of about an hour ago from the night show. While I love these ones as I don’t feel near as rushed, it does suck to get home in the wee hours of the morning since they’re never close shows.

I did come home with ideas though. Cupid’s main complaint was width (which I’m fully aware of and have does to help) and fur (something most of the red program could use help with). My best fur doe is black carrying sable though so that might be an interesting cross I’ll more or less have to keep to myself unless people are okay with extremely weird color crossing. It doesn’t get too much weirder than that, especially considering Cupid’s gotta carry chocolate. Probably a whole litter full of castor if I were to do that, maybe black as well. We’ll see what transpires, but I’d rather use what I’ve got than go try to find another nice furred doe. Type wise they’d cross beautifully.

I’m going to preface this by saying I truly don’t give a rat’s behind about my page performance. When I pulled up the dashboard it decided to proudly shove this in my face, probably because it was the most recent post, but *at least* 2 unfollows on a tattoo post?

I don’t know if y’all have realized, but I make it blatantly obvious I breed for SHOW purposes. You wanna know what’s required for a rabbit to show? Gasp! A TATTOO. In the left ear specifically. It’s also listed on every single pedigree ever, or I should say has to be present to qualify as a complete pedigree, and if you want your records to stay accurate the best way to ensure that is to tattoo every single animal before they leave your care so the ear number stays consistent. I’ve had people completely disregard my listed ear numbers if I didn’t get around to tattooing the animal before leaving, and they then proceed to tattoo the rabbit something entirely different. That’s a huge no-no. So now I do my best to have it done before they leave. It’s a quick, low drama thing that’s done in literally a minute or two. Using a tattoo pen anyways - my preferred method over the clamp, which they tend to freak out more over. I don’t own a clamp for that express reason.

It’s been 24 hours since that post has been up, so those who were offended by it have probably weeded themselves out by this point. So good riddance, and honestly, good on them for not throwing a fit on their way out the door. I highly appreciate that because I hate drama. Drama makers get the block button just as fast as I can see it.

A couple of the bucks got new ink tonight. One because he’s going to his new home tomorrow and if I can I prefer to have them done before leaving, and the other because we’ve got a show on Saturday! We tend to put this off until the last minute, because my fiance doesn’t enjoy doing it, and I can’t reasonably do it most days due to my hands constantly being numb - I’d rather be able to fully feel/control my movements when I attempt this for obvious reasons.

We had joked about using colored ink when setting up the station to do these guys, and I’d said blue would be nice, but we opted to use black. Until I realized my black ink is missing (probably somewhere in the vehicle 😒) so we indeed used blue.

If you’re not aware, ink for rabbit tattoos is not required to be black for showing. It can be any color as long as it is legible! That means you could do rainbow colored tattoos if you wished (I don’t have time for that, but if you do by all means!), but I’ve had animals with orange, green, and now blue tattoos!

Pictured is Shady Brook’s Drinking With Cupid. I won’t say the F word that tends to doom them out loud… but he knows he’s my “F” Rex at the moment anyways 😂. The overall title across all the breeds doesn’t go to him, but still. He’s a close second.

I almost posted this girl yesterday at the same time as Sea The Stars but talked myself out of it before making the post. She’s continuing to look nicer every time I pull her out, and to be honest I think I’ll have FOMO if I prematurely let her go elsewhere and she turns out a stunner, especially because I’ve thinned down that line real fast and in a hurry in favor of keeping kits/grandkits. She’ll probably end up being paired to Shady Brook’s Drinking With Cupid (her… nephew?) unless I can make a red program buck with stellar width by the time I start pairing her. That’s my main nitpick with her. She’s very narrow overall right now, but her sire is completely new-to-me lines so I should probably just let her grow and see what happens.

At this rate, no does will be available until end of July. That’s when the next set of litters will be reaching evaluation age. And then the big sort through in August/September to get numbers down before winter.

This one is Shady Brook’s Safe Haven, broken red Rex Jr doe. NFS!

Well, my show team for the Summit County night show will be tiny but mighty. Showing Skoll and his son Cupid, and that’s it! Skoll is still available, so if you’re interested and in the area (Tallmadge, OH), come find me to take a look! It will be weird to just have a couple carriers to take - one rabbit to drop to her new home and a couple for cull. But it should be a more relaxing show than the ones recently, with only showing one breed. I didn’t even look at the other breeds because there’s no entries (yet) in either of them - still an hour and 20 minutes left to enter though.

👀 🏡 - broken blue Rex buck!

Shady Brook’s Sea The Stars, broken blue Rex Jr buck

Shady Brook’s Cassiopeia (torted blk/org tricolor - mosaic) x Harengon’s Sully (blue)

Sea The Stars has to carry either random extension (gene responsible for brindle/tricolor) or nonextension (gene responsible for red/tort/etc). He COULD carry chocolate and/or white, though I make zero guarantees.

While this buck lost out on staying to his brother, the race was very close and I think he could be valuable to someone’s program. He should turn out to be decent sized - where most of my stock sit towards the lower end of the weight range I anticipate him getting to 8.5-9 pounds. He’s still got a lot of growing/filling out to do.

6️⃣0️⃣ - can get to the Tallmadge, OH show on Saturday (can meet on the way there or back as well), or pickup near Mannington. He’ll be at the Buckhannon swap on Friday too. Would rather not hold this guy for transport.
