Hyrna for two weeks would go out to pasture with the herd, but then immediately lay down and eat. Hmm, something isn’t right. I keep close tabs on her. She’s really Wiley, so I was finally able to catch her yesterday. Expecting a bad Famacha. Wrong, excellent Famacha. I release her stumped. She’s not limping. As I watched her walk away her front leg was trembling slightly. Okay, I think maybe a sore foot. Check that tomorrow. Fast forward to catching her this evening. I notice that her whole body is trembling, but she continues to eat. I bring her in fighting me tooth and nail. I trim her feet and find nothing. It’s really hot and she is panting now. Unable to get a temp without a helper I think, maybe meningeal worm possibly since she’s shaking. Get meds to treat her. With a helper, realize she is very warm (not just from me working her). Temp reveals 106.2. Yikes! Fred heads back to house for different meds while I found a baby blanket, wet it down, and draped it on her. She actually pushed her head into me as I rubbed her face. Sweet girl 😢. She received safeguard (before realizing her temp), banamine, penicillin, and b complex. Then we poured water on her. She is nibbling her hay and ate a few oats I gave her. I haven’t seen her drink yet. Fans blowing down on her. She’s not panting as much, but still very shaky when standing. 🤞hoping for slight improvement tomorrow but not really totally sure what I’m dealing with yet. Tomorrow and Sunday more of the same heat, ugh!
