There's a restaurant in Baldwin County where you can eat beside a full-size train car, wander through rooms packed with transportation memorabilia and almost forget you're sitting at a truck stop.

Welcome to the Derailed Diner.

Located at the Oasis Travel Center along Interstate 10 near Robertsdale, this isn't one of Alabama's century-old restaurants.

It's here because it's one of the state's wonderfully unusual roadside stops.

The entire restaurant is built around a transportation theme.

Train memorabilia.

Automobile pieces.

Vintage signs.

Motorcycles.

Old equipment.

And enough things hanging from walls and ceilings that you can spend half your meal looking around.

That's what makes it such a perfect Alabama road-trip stop.

For generations, roadside restaurants weren't simply about food.

They were part of traveling.

Before every interstate exit began looking almost identical, families remembered trips by the unusual places they stopped along the way.

The giant roadside attraction.

The strange gas station.

The restaurant with something enormous sitting outside.

Derailed Diner captures some of that spirit.

And its location couldn't be better.

Interstate 10 carries enormous numbers of travelers across Baldwin County toward Mobile, Pensacola and Alabama's beaches.

Plenty of people drive straight through.

But Alabama Life isn't about driving straight through.

It's about finding the weird place at the exit and seeing what's inside.

Maybe you stop for breakfast.

Maybe it's a burger.

Maybe you simply need a break from the interstate.

Either way, this is considerably more memorable than another identical fast-food dining room.

Sometimes the best road-trip stops aren't historic yet.

They're just weird enough that everybody remembers them.

The Derailed Diner definitely qualifies.

So just a fiy to any food truck out in the market for a generator, and fyi I bought a Pulsar generator inverter dual, and after 1 year and 1 month, the 9500-watt unit I bought new has broken. Nonetheless, Pulsar informed me that it was for commercial use and they will not cover the warranty. just fyi to all my food truckies and trailer users using a generator: make sure it is not Pulsar
