Tips for selecting tomato plants. Just because they have flowers (or fruits!) doesn’t mean it’s a good choice. It’s important that tomatoes have strong vegetative growth to have more surface area to collect sunlight bring photosynthesis to give you an abundant crop. The same rings true for peppers.

The nursery will be open on Sunday from 11 to 3 and potentially on Monday afternoon. We have lots of heirloom tomatoes that we are bringing inside every night to make sure that they maintain good health and vigor because it hasn’t reached 50° at night yet. Are heirloom pepper varieties will come out in about a week. Please help us make some space for them by coming to get some tomatoes.

Heirloom tomatoes are now available in the nursery. These are 6 of our 11 varieties. Marisha has been growing these and saving the seeds for over 20 years. All are locally adapted and thrive in our area. We also have Cherokee purple, chocolate cherry, ropreco paste, Jaunne flamme, and Marisha’s cherry. Variety descriptions can be found on the nursery list posted on our website. It’s still a bit cold at night so they need to be protected at night. This weekend, the nursery will be open on Saturday (May 16) from 11-3. We will not be open to the public on Sunday since the farm will be hosting our workshop on cultivating plant communities. There is still@space available if you want to join us.

Join me this Sunday, May 17 to learn about how to create functional and beautiful plant communities, with annuals and perennials, trees, shrubs, and wildlife. We will talk about companion planting, guilds, relationships in the root zone and relationships above ground. Plant combinations can help discourage pests, support soil health, or enhance pollination. We will have hands-on activities and games to help you play and gain comfort in matching plants together for abundance. Please pre-register. I hope you can join us. Edible flowers are a delightful addition to your garden. Many of them also attract beneficial insects. Some of these flowers are blooming right now in the garden. Many of them are available in the nursery flowers at beauty salad and they can add flavor and texture to a meal. The last picture is our new member of the farm likely hatched yesterday. Got a suggestion for her name? Drop it in the comments, I’d love to hear some ideas.

The nursery will be open this weekend on Saturday and Sunday from 11 to 3 PM. The nursery list has been updated on the website and we will have tomatoes available. It is not quite warm enough outside for tomatoes so they have been going inside at night. Link in bio for website. The address of the nursery is on the website.

This class will discuss how to start a food forest and how to retrofit an existing orchard. We will also discuss soil building strategies, plant selection, creating guilds, pest and disease control, and much more! Link to website in bio. Work/trade available. I hope you can join us!
