Burnt Ridge Nursery and Orchards is a family owned farm, in business since 1980. Our 20 acre farm is located in the foothills of the Cascade Mountains with a distant view of Mount St. Helens. Our mail order nursery specializes in disease resistant bushes and trees that provide edible fruits or nuts. We also have a large selection of N.W. native plants. We send nice sized, healthy, well-rooted plan

t material. The varieties we carry have done well in our orchards. If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email.

Looking for a fast growing groundcover with delicious edible fruits? We'd recommend the Emerald Carpet Raspberry! This fast growing evergreen groundcover raspberry is native to the mountains of Taiwan. Its yellow/orange berries are ripe in mid summer and taste good. They grow in sun or shade, and are tough and drought tolerant once established. The broad leathery dark green evergreen leaves of Emerald Carpet Raspberry make a good ground cover for w**d suppression and soil stabilization. You sometimes may also hear it called 'Orangeberry'.

Fresh figs taste so much better than what you can find at the grocery store. Even if you don't live in a warm climate, it is possible to grow your own delicious fresh figs in your own backyard! We'd recommend taking a look at this book: "Growing Figs in Cold Climates," by Lee Reich. It has great information on pruning, choosing varieties, harvest, preservation, and dealing with potential pests.

This summer, we'd like to recommend the book, "Trees of Power: Ten Essential Arboreal Allies," by Akeva Silver to your reading list! It has great information for organic growers on tree and shrub planting, propagation, culture and ecology. Trees of Power has especially useful chapters on chestnut, mulberry, elderberry, hickory, apple and hazelnut.
