The Art of W**e Blending

Nocturne and Lush are a perfect example of the complexity of Assemblage (w**e blending). Two beautiful w**es with a lot of similarities but very different on the palette.

Both w**es have grapes that were picked in 2022. They both have the same grapes in them: Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot. Both w**es were aged in French oak for 2 years. And both w**es were bottled on the same day.

So, how are they different? The difference is in the percentages of each varietal.

Lush is a true balance of fruit and oak. Comprised of 55% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, and 10% Petit Verdot, Lush is soft on the palette, full of gentle fruit, and is a perfect Californian expression of a Right Bank Bordeaux.

Nocturne is a structured blend of 70% Cabernet Franc, 20% Merlot, and 10% Petit Verdot. Bolder fruits, herbaceous Cabernet Franc notes, and higher tannins form the backbone of this w**e. This w**e is complexed and big enough to stand up to your steak dinner.

So, lots of similarities but 2 very different w**es. Come try for yourself and experience the art of Assemblage.

Well, we have officially concluded 2026 harvest. Let me tell you, this growing season has been the most challenging one yet for Scenic Valley Ranch Vineyard .

The 2025-26 winter was very mild which confused the grapes. The vines started waking up and pushing ( growing) about a month early. That translated to everything that goes on in the vineyard to be a month ahead of schedule.

We took a wonderful group of people with us to Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay tasting delicious w**es and experiencing the great culture of South America. But, with the early development of the vineyard, we came back from that amazing trip behind schedule as far as Vineyard management.

At a critical time of the season where we would be thinning, tucking, and preparing to net, my appendix ruptured setting us back and further complicating the management of the vines.

Graciously, we had wonderful volunteers and a very special gift from Bearing Fruit Vineyard and the nets went up

There was a lot of uneven ripening happening on the same vines. Grapes that started early already starting to ripen along with grapes that started at the normal time of year lagging behind. Yield also affected with less grapes brought into the w**ery this year.

When picking Flame Tokay today we truely experienced the final effect of a challenging year. Although we brought in some beautiful grapes, most of the crop was either picked over by wildlife or tainted with powdery mildew and unusable.

May the w**es from this year's harvest be the best ones yet. I cant wait to look back onto this year's harvest with a beautiful glass w**e and tell our guest about the challenges we overcame to put that w**e into their glass.

What to expect at Scenic Valley Ranch Vineyard today. Looks like we are about to get screwed by this tropical storm moving in. We have 4 tables that are under cover. If the wind remains calm, your chances to staying dry are good. If the wind picks up, we might have a challenge keeping dry. We welcome your adventurous side and will remain open unless further notified.
