A little story about my Granny and PawPaw by Tammy Brackett

My Granny taught me to pick tomatoes and okra and make vegetable soup. She made cornbread in an iron skillet. Paw Paw taught me to dig potatoes. He drank his hot coffee from a saucer with me on his knee wondering how he didn't spill a drop. My grandparents were self reliant. A garden supplied food, a shed was where anything that broke went to get fixed, and the big oak tree was summer air conditioning. Rocking in a rocking chair on the porch fanning yourself with a paper fan from Sunday church to create a breeze was recreation and relaxation. Memories are precious portals to a beloved past. We hope you and your family have made fun memories at Gallmeyer Farms. Whether it's to pick up veggies or honey or pick strawberries in the spring or pumpkins in the fall. We never know what tomorrow might bring. The Veggie Stand is ready to help you make some memories right now. Bring the little ones and show them REAL food in a real open air farm market. Your granny would be proud.

DID YOU KNOW we have a free picnic and play area at The Veggie Stand? You can bring a basket of goodies and have open air fare and let your kids play on our swing set and slide.
Why free? It's important to support families and children. Families are fundamental to society. If we can offer a family a green field, fresh air, sunshine, a play area and a picnic table for free, then we are happy to do it. Of course, if you're tempted to purchase a watermelon or cantaloupe or some peaches or apples or honey to have with your picnic....well, then...all the better.

When the freeze and drought killed so much, Farmer Steve explained, very concisely, how this affected bees. Knowing the bee story from Farmer Steve helped me pause a moment and appreciate what I was seeing.
