Cozying up with a powerful, my homemade herbal brew today to kick this sinus pressure and headache‼️
I wanted to share exactly what went into my pot and the incredible wellness benefits of each natural ingredient.
Here is the exact lineup I used to make a 5-6 cup batch:
What’s In The Pot and what I was aiming for,
• White Willow Bark: The Ultimate Pain Reliever
• Health & Nutritional Benefit: Contains salicin, a natural compound related to aspirin. It targets deep inflammation to relieve stubborn headaches and body aches.
• Fresh Ginger Root: The Sinus Soother
• Health & Nutritional Benefit:
A massive anti-inflammatory powerhouse. Ginger helps open up closed sinus passages, reduces swelling in the nasal tissues, and delivers gingerols that boost overall cellular defense.
• Cinnamon Stick: The Circulation Booster
• Health & Nutritional Benefit:
Highly anti-inflammatory and rich in antioxidants‼️ It improves blood flow to ease head pressure, provides a comforting warmth, and acts as a natural flavor corrector to balance out the bitter barks.
• Mullein Leaf: The Lung and Airway Cleanser
• Health & Nutritional Benefit:
A traditional respiratory savior. It acts as a natural expectorant, helping to thin and clear out heavy mucus trapped in the sinuses and respiratory tract.
• Pine Needles: The Vitamin C Shield
• Health & Nutritional Benefit: Contains high concentrations of bioavailable Vitamin C to jumpstart the immune system. The natural aromatic terpenes inside pine act as a powerful decongestant to help you breathe easier.
• Echinacea, Elderflower, & Honeysuckle Buds: The Immune Defense Trio
• Health & Nutritional Benefit: Packed with flavonoids and immune supporting compounds. This traditional combination helps the body fight off upper respiratory bugs, reduces the duration of seasonal discomfort, and calms irritated mucous membranes.
How I Brewed It:
I simmered the tough, woody barks and roots (white willow, ginger, and cinnamon) for 15 minutes to extract their medicinal properties.
Then, I turned off the heat and added the delicate leaves, flowers, and pine needles to steep tightly covered for another 15 minutes so none of the healing essential oils escaped in the steam. Strained well, added a bit of raw honey, and it's ready to sip!
*Friendly reminder for my friends: Because white willow bark acts like natural aspirin, it's not for those with aspirin allergies, bleeding conditions, or those who are pregnant‼️
