Well my goodness. For the first time since starting my Tuesdays with Terri posts, I completely forgot it was Tuesday. So it's a bit later than I usually post but it's still Tuesday. I've had a few busy days in a row and was looking forward to having only my Pilates class (a favorite) on my calendar for today. I realized that I have been waiting for the perfect time, journal, pen to continue writing my second book. Instead of giving myself permission to continue waiting, I just signed up for a writer's retreat in Santa Fe for a week next February. Now, granted that is not really starting now but because I've taken that step I feel ready to pick up a favorite pen and enjoy the writing process once more. What's something new or challenging that you can take that first step towards? Don't wait. Do it now.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ I came across today's quote after a particularly trying day. Feel tired and broken, I saw this message and smiled. Yes, I am made up of many flaws. Some painful, some amusing and some embraced with honor. While I acknowledge my flaws, I also think about how I can learn from them and maybe become a better person. Not in spite of them but because of them. I invite you to think about and embrace your own flaws. Because of them we are who we are. Messy, cracked and joyously human.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ There's a new word I've made up (or apologies if someone else made it up) "voluntold" this happens when you find out that instead of volunteering for an assignment or project, you are VOLUN-TOLD that you are doing it. This has happened to me on more than one occasion lately. Most times I laugh and accept the new assignment. The last time this happened I found myself becoming resentful that I wasn't asked if I could do something, but it was assumed that I would. The next time (and I'm sure there will be a next time) this happens, if I really don't want to take on something else, I give myself permission to politely say "thank you for thinking of me but I am unable to take that on at this time". What do you need to give yourself permission to put yourself first and decline the assignment or project?

Tuesdays with Terri ~ It's been a challenging week for me. We hosted two events this weekend. Peter's RMBTC Dog Fun Day (20 people and 25 dogs) and my MCSAP Annual BBQ (25 people but no dogs). Added on to that I had two wise and compassionate teachers transition. One was an esteemed horse whisperer who showed us that we don't have to dominate our horses, we need to speak their language and learn from them. The other was a wise and majestic eagle. She was with her mate for 14 years and raised many younglings. Teaching us tenacity, strength and patience. I will miss them both and at the same time knowing they are still with us if we just get quiet and listen.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ A long and challenging night. Smarty, my horse of 18 years was not well. Showing signs of possible colic (not good for a horse). Emergency vet called and it was determined she was dehydrated and not p**ping (also not good for a horse). Pain meds administered. And monitoring started. She finally started drinking (you really can lead a horse to water but can't make them drink) and the long night began. No sleep and out to the barn multiple times to check on her. Finally at around 1:00am a p**p is sighted! Huzzah! Turning the corner. Continuing to monitor my beloved companion.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ Today I am so grateful to live on 6 acres, wide open spaces where I can see my neighbors but not hear them all the time. We are a close community and provide assistance to each other when needed (say to borrow a bigger tractor) and yet we give each other space. Perhaps one downside is fire danger. Out here we do not have fire hydrants. Everyone is on a well. And with large animals on each property, evacuation can be tricky. The fire that sprang up two days ago gave me pause for thought. Luckily our phenomenal fire crews had it contained over night and l didn't have to worry about how to fit 4 horses, 1 mini donkey, 5 chickens and a barn cat into a 2 horse trailer. Whew! I would still choose this life over the bustle of city life (been there) every day. Gratitude 🙏🏻

Tuesdays with Terri ~ Occasionally I've posted about "triggers". What they are, how we react, and, for me, darn aren't I done with this one yet? Yesterday at dance rehearsal I was triggered once again. We're practicing for an upcoming event and since there are 10 of us we wanted two lines of 5. That meant one of us from the back line had to move up to the front. I've been a member for about 1 1/2 years and yet they said the new girl (who has been with us for 3 months) would move to the front. If you've read my book one of my triggers (yes, have more than one) is I am never first…always second. I know my triggers and yet I still reacted instead of responding. Apparently I still need to work on it. What triggers do you still need to work on?

Tuesdays with Terri ~ Many of us around the country are dealing with the oppressive weight of high temps, which can add to the oppressive weight of the thoughts and troubles we tend to carry around with us. Recently I was reminded of a favorite quote from Wayne Dyer "Change the way you look at things, and the things you look at change." So when you feel overwhelmed or just "done" I invite you to change the way you look at what is troubling you and maybe the troubling thought will change. It's all about perspective and attitude. Change your attitude and the "heat" of something will cool off.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ Today I'd like to share about getting comfortable with quiet. This 4th of July because of how dry we are here in Colorado there was a complete fireworks ban. While we still celebrated with hamburgers, salads, outdoor enjoyment, it was gloriously quiet. No flash bangs in the distance, no multiple crackles of firecrackers going off. And all the animals (and our veterans) had a trauma free celebration. The quiet of the day reminded me to continue to be comfortable with the intermittent silence of each day. Breathe into the space of silence and listen for the messages from within.

Tuesdays with Terri ~ Writing today from the waiting area of Denver GI. Love of my life in for an always fun colonoscopy. Nothing serious. Preventative only. Still disconcerting to see your love lying in a bed, hooked up to monitors and nurses coming in and out. I can't even begin to imagine what Peter went through when i was in ICU with my TBI. Time to take a deep breath and remember this is preventative and not trauma oriented. Whew. So, close my eyes, take a deep breath, feel my feet on the floor and get re-grounded as I sit and wait.
