Last week our staff worked incredibly hard preparing Lost Valley Ranch for the next chapter. They cleared out buildings, moved furniture and equipment, packed up years of ranch life, and prepped spaces for the renovations ahead. It was a lot of lifting, sorting, hauling, and teamwork. We’re so grateful for our people who jumped in and got it done!

There’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes before construction even begins, and this crew has been all in. We’re officially one step closer to what’s ahead!

Well, we’ve reached the end of our summer season, and what a summer it was! We watched a new crop of first-time riders find their seat in the saddle, cheered on plenty of hard-fought rodeo runs, and said a lot of hard goodbyes to guests who’ve become friends. As always, it went by faster than we wanted it to, but we’re grateful for every guest who crossed our cattle guard this year.

As we close down the ranch this week and prepare for the shutdown, we wanted to highlight a few items. We sent out an email with all the details, but here’s the recap:

• We’re still reachable! Give us a call at 303-647-2311 or send an email to [email protected] Monday through Friday (we’ll be closed on weekends).
• If you’re interested in coming to the ranch in 2028, please submit an inquiry via our Check Availability form online. We’ll reach out mid-2027 to those interested in 2028 bookings.
• We’ll be sending monthly emails recapping construction progress. We’ll also be posting weekly on socials for some behind-the-scenes content.
• We’ve brought in Matukat Construction as general contractor for all phases of the renovation. Matukat is owned by two former Lost Valley staff guys.
• Check in with us on September 1st, when we announce what buildings are being renovated during the shutdown!

It’s the start of a new week here in the valley!
Judd kicks things off by sharing stories with the kids about the animals that live on the ranch and the long history of creatures in this valley. From dragons and hummingbirds to our ranch cats Bonnie + Clyde, there’s no shortage of living things to discover at Lost Valley Ranch!

To our Lost Valley family,

If you are reading this, chances are good that you love Lost Valley Ranch. Well, so do we! If you are anything like us, you love the warmth of the staff, the familiarity of the ranch’s traditions, the thrill of being horseback in Pike National Forest, and the increasingly elusive opportunity to truly unplug and be present with people you love. Maybe, like us, the ranch just feels like home. And perhaps you even feel that the space between here and heaven is just a little bit thinner at Lost Valley. We sure do.

Which is why it is painful to share that we must extend our previously announced period of being closed for major renovation. In addition to our Fall 2026 and Spring 2027 seasons, we regret to inform you that the ranch will also need to be closed for our Summer 2027 and Fall 2027 seasons. Our goal is to reopen for guests in early 2028, with no further complete shutdowns required. To be clear, Lost Valley will still be open for our Spring 2026 and Summer 2026 seasons, and no present bookings are impacted by this announcement.

For sixty plus years, Lost Valley Ranch has been well-loved by generations of guests and staff. And the truth is: our infrastructure shows it. After a thorough professional inspection of all ranch buildings, it became obvious that most of our structures were well past the point of simple renovation, and that none of them would take us to our ultimate goal: to keep the heart and soul of Lost Valley going for another sixty plus years!

If you visited the ranch in 2025, you saw that work has already begun on the edges of the property. But by Fall 2026, the next phase of renovation will begin in the very center of the ranch. Initially, we thought that being shut down for only two seasons would be enough to welcome you back. However, now that we understand better the degree of construction required, it is clear we must fully complete this central phase without guests or staff on property. Attempting otherwise would be too unsafe and too disruptive to your normal experience of the ranch.

To follow along with our progress once the shutdown starts, stay tuned to our social media pages. You can also sign up for our email list, which will send periodic update emails.

If you want to be added to our mailing list, please send a message to [email protected].

We will use this email list to let you know when booking opportunities for 2028 open. We will reach out first to our Spring 2026, Summer 2026, and Fall 2025 guests with the opportunity to re-book your same dates and cabins for 2028.

We know this news is very disappointing to anyone who was hoping to cross our cattle guard in the summer or fall of 2027. We could not agree with you more. When you love the ranch as much as we do, it hurts to hit the “pause” button. And while we will miss being together in 2027, we look forward to welcoming you back to your ranch home for another sixty plus years of awesome staff, fun traditions, thrilling rides, unplugged joy, and feeling maybe just a little bit closer to heaven at Lost Valley Ranch! OOOO-AAAAH!!!

With love for you and the ranch,
The Lost Valley Stewardship Team
