The weather is turning here in the valley with cooler mornings, and the aspens are starting to golden. This time of year, we'd normally be right in the middle of a specialty week, full of new and familiar faces and the sounds of horses coming in from the trails. We miss having you all here for it, and while the ranch is closed this fall, there's plenty going on behind the scenes.

This month, we are taking you into the process of brand preservation in the Lodge. These brands hold so much history, each one created by a family during their stay and marked with a checkmark every summer they return, some going all the way back to the 1960s. That's why preserving them has been our priority from the very beginning of this renovation and why we're keeping this space exactly the same. Demo is complete on the south section of the Red Barn.

The historic part of the barn isn't going anywhere, at least not far. It will be reinforced, lifted, and moved 15 feet onto a new foundation so it can keep standing for a long time to come. Moving it gives us room to expand the corral, which means more space for the herd and the wranglers who care for them.

The section that came down will be rebuilt with the same roofline and shape, so when you walk up to the corral, it will still feel like home.

We're confident Lost Valley Ranch will still feel like home when you return. Every decision, from the materials we're using to the layout of each room, has been made with your experience in mind. We're preserving the details that make Lost Valley feel like Lost Valley.

We're ready to share what's ahead!

There's something strange about announcing changes to a place that's meant to feel timeless. But part of loving Lost Valley for sixty-plus years means trusting that the heart of it stays the same, even as the buildings around it have to change.

Lost Valley Ranch has been well-loved by generations of guests and staff, and it shows. These buildings won't carry us into the next generation as they are, which means rebuilding isn't a choice, it's a necessity. And because we have to rebuild, we've kept as much the same as we possibly can.

We're confident Lost Valley Ranch will still feel like home when you return. These required renovations are just creating a stronger foundation for the physical structures to last. Long after construction is done, you'll still saddle up with the same wranglers, sit down to the same meals, and feel that same rush the moment you cross the cattle guard. We're making sure the ranch carries all of that forward for generations to come.

Last week our staff worked incredibly hard preparing Lost Valley Ranch for the next chapter. They cleared out buildings, moved furniture and equipment, packed up years of ranch life, and prepped spaces for the renovations ahead. It was a lot of lifting, sorting, hauling, and teamwork. We’re so grateful for our people who jumped in and got it done!

There’s a lot of work happening behind the scenes before construction even begins, and this crew has been all in. We’re officially one step closer to what’s ahead!

Well, we’ve reached the end of our summer season, and what a summer it was! We watched a new crop of first-time riders find their seat in the saddle, cheered on plenty of hard-fought rodeo runs, and said a lot of hard goodbyes to guests who’ve become friends. As always, it went by faster than we wanted it to, but we’re grateful for every guest who crossed our cattle guard this year.

As we close down the ranch this week and prepare for the shutdown, we wanted to highlight a few items. We sent out an email with all the details, but here’s the recap:

• We’re still reachable! Give us a call at 303-647-2311 or send an email to [email protected] Monday through Friday (we’ll be closed on weekends).
• If you’re interested in coming to the ranch in 2028, please submit an inquiry via our Check Availability form online. We’ll reach out mid-2027 to those interested in 2028 bookings.
• We’ll be sending monthly emails recapping construction progress. We’ll also be posting weekly on socials for some behind-the-scenes content.
• We’ve brought in Matukat Construction as general contractor for all phases of the renovation. Matukat is owned by two former Lost Valley staff guys.
• Check in with us on September 1st, when we announce what buildings are being renovated during the shutdown!

That's a wrap on summer 2026! Thank you to every family who crossed our cattle guard this season. We had an incredible summer full of horseback riding, square dancing, laughing, and more.
