Last week we were excited to partner with the Jumpstart to Produce Safety at UNH extension to share our knowledge and practices in food safety with other local farmers.
As we saw this summer, our very large food system has cracks that can have dangerous implications for those who depend on it. When armed with knowledge, small farms can be agile and intentional with our practices allowing us to constantly work to modernize produce safety in the changing world.
Forrest Barker led a tour through the farm to show firsthand how conservation practices such as drainage systems, swales, field roads, and water management infrastructure can help reduce flood impacts, protect soil health, and minimize risks to crop safety.Ā The event also covered various food safety topics such as: wash-pack management strategies, produce handling workflows, standard operating procedures, waste management systems, and methods for preventing cross-contamination.
Weāre proud of the work we do on the farm and enjoy these opportunities to share our knowledge and learn from other passionate farmers and community members!
