It was a sobering day…
Honestly, it’s been a while since I was the one to take the lives on chicken processing day.
Today, I was the one with knife in hand that took the life from every single one. Lives that for the last 2.5 months I looked forward to moving every morning across the pasture. Lives that I looked after, made sure they had everything they needed to thrive and live an stress-free life. I held them in place as calm as I could and felt every last nerve leave their bodies until it was finished.
I didn’t realize how much I needed to face that part of the process until it was happening. Even though I’m very much connected to my food, I lost some of that connection lately in the hustle and bustle.
I’m thankful for the sacrifice, I hope we honored these lives and thankful for the nutrients they’ll provide for so many of you.
For us to live, something else must give its life.
It's a truth that modern society has become disconnected from.
Every steak, every roast, every meal represents a life. A life that deserves respect, care, and gratitude.
Here on our farm, we believe that raising animals isn't simply about producing food. It's about stewardship. Giving them a good life, treating them with dignity, and recognizing the sacrifice that ultimately nourishes our families.
We don't take that responsibility lightly.
“For every creature of God is good, and nothing to be refused, if it be received with thanksgiving.” — 1 Timothy 4:4
Life nourishes life. And that should never be taken for granted.
