Last night, Peanut was MIA at night, sleeping somewhere wild in the chicken yard. I was actually able to find him tonight. In an oak tree, just hanging out.

Since he was closest to my BYM flock coop, I put him in with them, he seemed content.

Peanut has decided that after being in the small quarantine kennel for much longer than I would ever want anyone to be, that he will not be hindered by a cage any longer.

As much as I would love him to be a real free bird, I know he is just a chicken nugget meal waiting to happen! Bantam cochins are not the most agile of birds..

This is a breed where both the hens and roosters are just as pretty! ❤️

No one was as excited for the bantam RIR for the 2026 breeding season as I was. Not much reception. I don't think a single hatching dozen from them was soId.

Definitely not a single chick because I hoarded any chicks that hatched to try and grow the flock out. But I didn't hatch much from them.

I will hopefully have 5 girls in the flock for the 2027 season, as long as everyone keeps tootin' along.

Who doesn't love a beetle green sheen?

To those of you who liked the shiny chicken butt, here is the owner of said b***y.

This is Santa, my Bantam RIR rooster. Next year I plan for him to be replaced by his son, but he gets to hang with his gals for this last winter.

I have a retirement home planned for him, if all works out. He will have another flock of girls all for himself at a friend's brother's house!

I'll let y'all know if that falls through, maybe someone would like this stud muffin in their flock. ❤️

Today started out with tears when I found my calico cochin girl I was fondest of, Honey, had passed away overnight.

Honey was a sweet girl, always was. She got to take a trip with us for Christmas last year when she got her head hurt by walking under my husband's foot. She healed up quickly. She was just so clingy she got under foot too much.

She was perfectly healthy last night. Good weight, no crop issues, a perfectly healthy girl. We held her last night and loved on her, so we knew nothing was off. She was up and perched with everyone else.

Last night was Ivermectin treatment night. This wasn't the first time she has had Ivermectin, but the only thing I could think of was something caused an adverse reaction to Ivermectin. That is the only thing that makes sense.

She was not overdosed, she had the same amount as all the other bantams, who are all perfectly fine this morning. I even treated some 2 week old chicks and they are running around like crazies this morning as usual.

A start like this certainly gives you a negative outlook on the day, it brings down motivation to do things, but I know I need to..

This black Bantam Cochin boy is going to have the time of his life! He hasn't been around any hens since he was a very young fella, before breeding age! Back then he had a shrimp butt (hilarious looking).

He is currently molting, so probably not the best first impression to ladies, but maybe he can win them over with his charm (if he has any.)

Finnegan has been his roomie for the last couple weeks, as Finnegan healed from being bullied. Now they are both in the chicken area, and hopefully my Finnie boy will show him the ropes!

This boy was left waiting for over 4 weeks for someone who had claimed him to get him. Eventually I said enough is enough. He needs to be a free boy, so I set him "free" today and he is his own bird now!

Trying to decide on if I want to put together a pity flock for this boy because of the stress he went through. Or keep him in the bachelor pen as an honorary permanent member. OR seII him with a couple black pullet growouts I am raising up currently.
