There’s something about late spring in Oklahoma…

The black-eyed susans start showing up—
bright, wild, and completely at home where they grow.

They don’t need perfect soil.
They don’t need much tending.
They just show up, year after year.

It’s a good reminder that not everything needs to be forced.

Sometimes the strongest things are the ones that grow naturally 🌼

Have you started seeing them yet?

It’s starting to show up in patches now…

Prairie Phlox.

Soft purples and pinks scattered low across the ground—
easy to miss if you’re not paying attention.

It doesn’t take over.
It just fills in the spaces.

That’s kind of how spring works out here...
little by little, everything finds its place.

Have you noticed this one yet?

That bright red you’re seeing pop up across the fields?

That’s Indian Paintbrush — Oklahoma’s state flower 🌿

What makes it special is how it grows.

It can’t really survive on its own.
It has to connect its roots to nearby grasses to get what it needs.

Which is why you don’t see it thriving in gardens very often…
it belongs out here, growing alongside everything else.

Kind of a reminder — not everything is meant to grow alone.

Have you spotted any yet this spring?

One of the first signs of spring out here…

Red Columbine 🌸

Tucked into the shade and along the edges of the woods, these delicate blooms show up quietly—but they don’t go unnoticed.

Their bright red and yellow flowers are a favorite for hummingbirds, and every year they remind us that the land is waking up again.

They don’t last long, either.
A short window, easy to miss if you’re not paying attention.

That’s part of what makes them special.

If you’re walking your property or out on a trail this week, keep an eye out—you might just spot them.
