Gettysburg Homestead I'm an over the hill, introverted, anxiety ridden, keeping it real kind of person. I have everyday struggles and won't pretend I don't. I'm Mary, the driver.

So buckle up and welcome to the struggle bus. I'm closing in on a half a century years old mama to 2 adult children. One who is on the autism spectrum and still lives with me. We live very close to largest Amish community in Ohio and love the peace and quiet. I love creating with fabric, wool, paper mache, and whatever else I have hidden around my home. I'm not a great cook or baker BUT I do love trying new recipes even though my daughter has quite a few food aversions. She is also trying new recipes to make on her own as well. Please join me as I navigate life trying to take care of my aging parents, work, helping my daughter, and enjoy the things that keep me sane in life.

I started brainstorming this morning for my coworkers shirt. I had some vintage lace in my stash and it was just the right size for the collar so it was meant to be. I also bought the linen that I have soaking. There were some stains that I'm hoping to get out. If not, I can still use it but in a different way on the shirt.

Guess what?!?!? Third try is a charm. I'm back and enjoying every minute of molding Santa's again. I found a new method that is making me so happy with the results and can make a couple extra at a time.

Oh yeah. Did I tell you my TMJ is so bad I can't bite my nails anymore? So, I now have long nails. 😂😂 My teeth have shifted around so much they don't close right to be able to bite them. I know, it was a bad habit to begin with. But, when you have anxiety like me you have to do something other than eat. 🤷‍♀️

I don't want to wait to show you what I bought at Ruby Moon when I went with my Dad.

Remember when I said my front porch would be a work in progress? Well, I needed these brown painted closet doors for height. That way I can display things like wreaths or signs or whatever.

Now, for the terra cotta wreath. I love it! The best part is it was only $5. I bought it with the intention of painting it. I'd use the rich beautiful colors of fall, which are my favorite ones to use. It is stunning this way it is but kind of plain, but with a little color 😍

Did you actually think I was going to sit at home today? 😂 no way! I visited two of my favorite thrift stores. 1. Harvest Thrift in Wilmot Ohio. 2. Trading Post in Millersburg Ohio. Both carry an abundance of crafting items, which I can't live without.

1. Harvest Thrift actually has two stores. One for mainly clothing and the other home decor and crafting items upstairs. How could I say no to quilting kits. All fabric uncut included. The Boo one was $4.50 and the 9 patch $3.50. Even if I don't actually make the kit it is fabric for my stash. I also found some paint, a stencil kit because I have always wanted a big Welcome sign for the porch, but won't pay a high price for one. And I got some floral wire. For those projects that need wired together or wooly trees.

2. Trading Post has a huge area with all sorts of odds and ends for crafting. I needed some pink fabric for a project. A coworker brought me her shirt and asked if I'd create a one of a kind for her. She is a girly girl who loves doilies, pink, and cutesy things. 🤦‍♀️ this is so out of my wheelhouse. But she is always so nice to me and she loved the other clothes I've upcycled. So, I found some things that I think I can make work.

I have so many projects on my list ❤️ To be honest I think this time off work is making me more creative. Anyway, the shirt, my applique project, the Santa's, and so many more.

👎 was the "new" technique a complete failure? No. I mean they are standing and that is what matters. Was the impression of the molds any better on the details? Absolutely not. I used a bit more water than normal hoping to get more detail and all it did was make them super wet and taking much longer to dry. My paper mache Santa's take quite a bit of time from start to finish including drying, sanding, painting, and finishing.

Since today is my last day of vacation this week I decided to experiment again. I'm using a different type of mixture and method. Good thing I'm not afraid of failing. Been there done that in more ways than one.

I went to a doctor appointment with my Dad in the town I grew up in this morning. I had seen this shop driving by multiple times and never stopped. Well, I decided today was the day. There are two floors, porches, and a barn full of goodness. It is a mix of new and old, a couple local artisans, and everything in between. I did buy some things and talked with the owner for awhile. I will definitely be going back. I have to place the items then I'll show you. So, if you know where Wadsworth Ohio is you NEED to stop by.

I'm trying some new things to see if I can improve my molding technique. This is exactly why I can't mass produce my Santa's. It is definitely a love not a quest to make a bunch of them and live off the income. 😂 Although I wish that were the case. 😉

Now here's a chuckle... not only am I off but the sales manager, shipping manager, and trouble maker are all off as well. 😂😂😂. So, no one is there to answer questions. This should be interesting.
