Puberty has hit the farm stand.

The cute little babies are still here, but suddenly there are tomatoes everywhere and everything has gotten dramatically larger.

Our gallon-pot tomatoes have arrived and they’re showing off. Sun Golds, Super Sweet 100s, beefsteaks, hanging tomatoes, window box tomatoes, Primo Reds, Volkovs, Moskovich, Sicilians…

Honestly, some of them look like they could start paying rent.

We’ve also got fresh cucumber plants, healthy squash plants, salad greens, and sturdy sunflowers ready to tower over your garden and make the neighbours jealous.

Looking for deals? The white plastic tables are where the bargains live: $3 each or 2 for $5.

If you’re confused about pricing, the chalkboards inside the farm stand have all the answers.

Nothing makes me happier than getting messages like this.

Marni sent in photos of her tomatoes—lush, healthy, absolutely thriving—and told us they started with plants she picked up from us on Mother’s Day.

Her husband even built a watering system to keep everything dialed in, and you can see the care and attention in every leaf.

This is the good stuff.

We don’t just want to sell you plants—we want you to succeed with them. We want you harvesting tomatoes in the sun, arguing over who gets the first ripe one, and figuring out (sometimes together, sometimes with a bit of trial and error) how to keep things thriving.

So to Marni and her husband: well done. Seriously. That’s beautiful growing.

And to everyone else out there tending their gardens right now—whether it’s your first year or your fifteenth—we’re cheering you on. Keep going. It’s worth it.

🌱🚜 A quick farm update! 🚜🌱

We may not be open today as we’re busy behind the scenes getting everything ready for an exciting unveiling tomorrow… 👀✨

BUT!

We’ve restocked the Free Plant Table out by the road, and it’s loaded up with plants looking for good homes. 🌱❤️

So if you’re feeling adventurous, need a few extra plants for the garden, or just can’t resist free things, come by and help yourself!

As always, please stick to the free plant area at the front of the farm and leave some treasures for the next gardener. 😊

See you tomorrow for the big reveal! 🎉🌿

🌱 Big Changes at the Farm Stand This Week! 🌱

It’s a bit of an “out with the old, in with the new” moment around here.

It’s not too late to plant a garden, but we want you to have tremendous success. To make room for the next season of the farm stand, all of our 4-inch tomatoes, peppers, and eggplants are now:

🍅 $3 each or 2 for $5

These plants need to get into the ground right away, so we’re pricing them to move.

For those just getting their gardens planted—or just getting home from vacation (because life has a way of interfering with our best gardening intentions)—we also have gorgeous gallon-plus tomato plants available. These big, healthy plants are already flowering and producing fruit, so you can jump right in and still enjoy a fantastic tomato harvest without feeling behind.

We also have plenty of other beautiful plants and a few special surprises available at the stand.

The Really Big News

We’re making some changes to the farm stand, and we need a few days to make the transition.

Starting this week, the farm stand will be open Wednesday through Saturday, 10 am to 5 pm.

Yes, you read that right:

🎉 Saturday!

And on Saturdays, either Brian or I will be at the stand from 10 am to 2 pm to answer questions, help with plant selection, and offer growing advice.

The flip side of this change is that we won’t be attending the farmers’ market this weekend.

We’re excited to spend more time connecting with people here at the farm and helping you grow a successful garden.

See you at the farm stand!

Grow food that works hard for you. 🌱

We have plenty of healthy winter squash plants ready to go in the ground. Winter squash is packed with nutrition, stores beautifully, and can provide hearty meals well into the colder months.

Unlike nurseries that bring plants in from elsewhere, we start our own plants every week, right here on the farm from trusted seed varieties that we know perform well in the Comox Valley.

Come see us at market today!

Saturday 9–1

Sunday 10–2

And yes—we’ve got tomatoes, peppers, eggplant, cucumbers, and plenty more. 🍅🌶️🥒

🌱 Why are we giving plants away? 🌱

Because I farm differently than the big box stores.

If I don’t think a plant gives you a really good chance of success, I don’t feel right charging you for it.

Maybe it’s gotten a little rootbound. Maybe it’s spent a bit too long in the pot. Maybe it’s not quite as vigorous as I’d like. Maybe the tag is questionable enough that I’m not willing to put my reputation on the line.

Could I still sell some of these plants?

Probably.

Will I?

No.

Because when you buy a plant from us, I want to feel confident that it has every opportunity to thrive in your garden. If it struggles because I sold it past its prime, that’s on me.

Now, have I planted rootbound squash in my own garden? You bet your butternut I have. 😆

Farmers’ plants are often a bit like the cobbler’s children—they don’t always get the best shoes.

The plants in our free section are still viable. Many will do just fine with a little extra TLC. Some may surprise you. Some may require patience. A few may become a gardening adventure.

And honestly? I’d much rather see them growing food than becoming compost.

So if you’re on a tight budget, if you’re gardening with a community group, if you’re helping stock a food garden, or if you simply enjoy rescuing plants that need a second chance, please come take a look.

The free plant area is located along the road in front of the farm this weekend. Please help yourself, take what you can use, and leave some for others.

Growing food shouldn’t only be for people who can afford perfect plants. 🌱❤️🚜

🌱💕 PLANTS SEEKING LONG-TERM RELATIONSHIPS 💕🌱

About us:
A charming collection of slightly imperfect vegetable plants. Some of us are a little rootbound. Some of us may not be exactly who our tags claim we are. Some of us have simply had a rough week and could use a fresh start.

We’re not looking for money. We’re looking for love. ❤️

Seeking:
An adventurous gardener who isn’t afraid of a little mystery. Someone who sees potential instead of perfection. Someone willing to say, “Sure, that might be a zucchini… or it might be a squash. Let’s find out together.”

If that’s you, we have a bunch of FREE plants waiting along the road in front of the farm. 🌱

A small favour:
Please help yourself from the free plant area, but don’t come onto the farm itself. The humans who live here are enjoying a well-earned weekend break from the public, and we’d like to keep it that way. 😊

Now, if you’re looking for plants with a solid résumé, verified identity, and excellent references, come see our pretty faces at market! 🎸🚜

We’ve still got:
🍅 Gorgeous healthy tomatoes
🌶️ Peppers
🍆 Eggplants
🎃 Winter squash
🥒 Lots of amazing cucumbers
🍈 Melons that will actually work in our climate

Plus all the advice you could ever want about getting them growing.

The free plants are for the gardeners who like a challenge.

The market plants are for the gardeners who like certainty.

No judgment either way. 😎🤘🌱
