*Road update- Lower Bellbrook Rd is open at the 725 intersection. There are still signs that haven’t been moved but they are not blocking the road and people are able to get through. See you all later today!

A few pictures from market last weekend to get an idea of what we will have this weekend- so much more watermelon! Also fresh honeycrisp, gala, and McIntosh apples from Karnes Orchard. St. Anne’s cheese will be here Friday doing a tasting. We will also have Spring Mix (limited), lots of green beans, cucumbers, peppers, garlic, onions, tomatoes, cabbage, celery, Swiss chard, eggplant, summer squash (limited), Grist Provisions bread and raw local honey! Open today 1:00-4:00!

Are you all ready for a long winded lettuce post?! The picture in the top left corner is what our August lettuce looks like compared to the picture on the right of lettuce planted in May (same variety). You can see how much fuller the lettuce grows in May which results in a MUCH bigger harvest per bed, which means more lettuce available to sell in our market. The picture on the left was planted mid July before lettuce recalls had become prominent in the news (otherwise we would have started more). A quick search back to the weather when this lettuce was seeded, shows a high of 94 degrees and a heat index of 101, which as you can see from the graph at the bottom, is not ideal germination conditions for lettuce. All of these conditions, coupled with the fact that we had no idea that demand was going to be crazy for lettuce, are why we sell out so quickly. We are thankful to have any amount of lettuce this time of year! We are thankful for everyone who has been patient and understanding. Matt has gone a little crazy starting as much lettuce as he can for the Fall! We hope you all will stick with us and get excited for all the Spring Mix you could ever want in about 3-4 weeks- always with a guarantee that it’s parasite free!

A few pictures from harvest today and a few pictures from market lately. All this rain has been good and bad. The good- our next planting of Spring Mix will be ready to cut tomorrow morning for market this weekend, the celery tastes delicious with the rain and cooler temps, the peppers look big and beautiful, the green beans are finally more bountiful. The bad- the amount of watermelon didn’t ripen like we had hoped, it will still be limited, many of our tomatoes split so we won’t have as many as usual, cantaloupe started rotting in the field so they will be limited. We will also have a large supply onions, cabbages, green onions, beets, cucumbers, zucchini (limited), pepper varieties, sweet corn from Fairhaven Farm, and raw local honey. Open Friday 1-4 and Saturday 10-1. Even with some of the rain setbacks, it’s still going to be a great weekend for market!
