Wishing all our clients and friends a happy holiday season. Thank you for your support this year. Looking forward to a great 2022!
Longtime client and friend of MRF, Valerie Edmonds, passed away Thursday night. Val was a lifelong horse woman and dressage enthusiast. Every horse in the barn perked up and nickered when she walked in the barn because they knew that she could be counted on for a mint and soft words in her Scottish accent. Val was irreverent with a fabulous sense of humor but always cheerfully supportive of all of her barn mates. She will be missed.
Lexi Anderson on Caspar and Liena Gonsalves on Squirrel rode in their first schooling dressage show today at Morven Park very successfully! Everyone had a lot of fun in spite of the cold.
Just wrapped up a fun weekend here in North Carolina. Tanja Schnuderl and Kela won their warm up class yesterday and were 8th in a large class of 37 in the Training level finals class! A successful show for this pair in their first year of competing.
Mieke Meurs and Wipika were 3rd in their warm up class yesterday and 5th in the 2nd level finals class today. Mieke also competed her young horse Richland who was, well, a young horse...ππ€£π. Excellent experience for everyone!
For on farm lease: Lovely 10yo Andalusian gelding, 16 hands for partial or full lease. Owner is off to grad school so he is looking for someone who enjoys dressage and trail riding. "Lumi" is a curious, willing partner who thinks he's very funny and enjoys a person with a sense of humor. He's also a talented and beautiful mover! Weekly lessons are required. Survey: Helmet Use Common, But Helmet Care Often Subpar β The Horse
A survey found ridersβ helmets are often too old, well exceeding their manufacturer-stated expiration dates.
Fun day at the PVDA dressage show at Waredaca with Mieke Meurs winning 2nd level tests 2 and 3 on Wipika. And, Tanja Schnuderl winning Training level test 2 and 2nd place in Training test three on her lovely young mare Kela. Both pairs are headed to the Lundquist dressage finals in North Carolina at the end of the month.

Great group trail ride on Saturday in spite of the cicada bombs!
Kayla and Hank at Foxcatcher Intro Ride, a successful first time out endurance competition for their partnership.
Mieke Meurs and Wipika (Winnie) won the PVDA year end award reserve highpoint for 2nd level. Congratulations!
Horses may have their own opinions about obstacles. :)

This horse, Lula, got scared after stepping on a water tray. She was attempting her first-ever water tray jump with her owner sitting on her back. She was about to try the jump when she touched the tray and freaked out. She jumped and her front legs went up in the air in fear.
Wishing everyone a very good New Year. Let the fun begin!
Wishing a safe and happy Christmas holiday to all who celebrate.

A fast-moving equine flu cratered the US economy in the fall of 1872, showing all too clearly that horses were essential and deserved better treatment.
Wishing our clients, near and far, a Happy Thanksgiving.
Veronique, Rachel and Kayla enjoyed a fun morning with their horses on the fantastic obstacle course at Double C Farm.

The Maryland Horse Council issued additional guidance with respect COVID-19 and horse activities. We are posting it for your information.
Kind of a cold gray day today. Most horses are opting to eat hay rather than go looking for grass. Most of the horses were groomed today. Looks like a cold wet night tonight.

It was a perfect spring day here on the farm. The horses are all doing well, the trees are budding and the grass is growing! After the draught last year it's lovely to see so much green! Enzo sends his best. He misses seeing everyone and has been a little depressed. He's hoping that when you all appear again that you will bring him a snack and give him a good ear rub. Hope you all are healthy!
18 horses groomed/feet picked today! Our plan is to make sure that all horses are groomed and feet picked every other day or so. Hope you are all still healthy and weathering this lockdown okay
In concert with Governor Hogan's action yesterday closing non essential business at 5 pm, Moon Rising Farm closed its doors to the public.
The farm owner and staff will continue to provide daily care for the horses and ensure that they are well taken care of. Farrier service will continue as an essential service. Emergency medical care will be provided timely and horse owners will kept in the loop on all matters involving the care of the horses. Boarders are welcome to phone or text for updates on their horses.
We wil get thru this together as a community and hopefully our actions will keep our community members stay healthy, and also support management of the spread of COVID-19.
Be safe.
Rare opening for a mare in field board. Amenities include a shed under the same roof as the barn, grain twice a day and the horses are separated at feed time. Use of large lighted indoor area and over 200 acres to ride.
Wishing our clients and friends, both near and far, a New Year of achieving your dreams.
