Slate Run Vineyard Small winery/vineyard that specializes in traditional style wines. Named for a small nearby creek, Slate Run Vineyard is in central-Ohio, southeast of Columbus.

Slate Run Vineyard is a small farm winery that was opened in 1997 by Keith and Leslie Pritchard. Keith, an avid amateur winemaker since 1981, started planting grapes in 1985 to support his experimental winemaking pursuits. Quickly realizing that he planted too many grapes, Keith started selling them to other amateur winemakers and small wineries. By 1994, facing aging, burnout, and a wife that wan

ted to see him, Keith came to the realization that opening a winery would allow him to utilize all the skills and education that he developed previously in life. We welcome you to visit us, to taste any of our 17 proprietary wines, and to purchase some to take home. We can also ship wine, but only within Ohio.

More surprise! The Slate Run Vineyard 2019 Slate Blanc received a Bronze award in the 2026 Ohio Wine Competition, the Best of Ohio Dessert/Specialty 2023 Finale Late Harvest Vignoles received a Double Gold.
The 2019 Slate Blanc is made from GM318 (a Geisenheim Germany Riesling X Chancellor hybrid). Slate Blanc is a totally dry Riesling style wine with nice floral notes. I have both at the winery and not available anywhere else. You can taste these as well as the other wines at Slate Run Vineyard. I have edited this post as the surprises keep going on. Apparently they have had a few issues this year. Still good, but not as good as initially notified.

I haven't entered a wine competition in something like 5 years. I entered a few bottles in the 2026 Ohio Wine Competition.... SURPRISE ! They only announced the "Best Ofs" so far today. The wine is 2023 Finale Late Harvested Vignoles. 🥳🥂

This morning the grass had a lot of the crispy white stuff on it. Checked log and got down to 33.7F last night which is about 5 feet above ground. Not seeing much damage in vineyard, ground frosts work that way sometimes. Will see what tonight brings.

Got down to 29.6 F very early Monday (4/20), temps went up before daylight. Only saw a couple spots with any frost injury. This morning (4/21) low was 34.4 F, so that is good. Still could have frost in May so not out of the woods (or vineyard) yet. Grapes are running about 2 weeks ahead this year.
