Coffee drinking, kid chasing mom. Love all things food/farm & have mastered the art o Hello!

My name is Kristin and I am your typical mom learning to balance this crazy thing we call life! Not only am I the mom of two ornery little farmers but I am a self-proclaimed foodie and a farmer. I enjoy connecting with my friends and readers through recipes and life adventures. On our small farm we raise sheep, poultry, hay and I am the proprietor of a private cooking business, Local Flavor Foods.

I enjoy conversations about how our food is raised and take great joy in sharing a little bit about American Agriculture and my crazy life. Come follow me on social media or you may just run into me at school pickup, pass me driving a tractor down the road or shopping at the grocery store. It’s a crazy way of life but I can not imagine it any other way.

First day of classes at Ohio State!

A pretty special first day for these kids, Campbell’s first day as a freshman and Sam’s first day of his senior year! How in the world did we get here?

Campbell was an excellent first-year college student and sent her mom the required first-day-of-school picture. Sam, on the other hand, was a little less cooperative and failed to send one. 😂

But he completely redeemed himself tonight when he invited Campbell to dinner with two of my other favorite Ohio State students, Lydia and Ryder.

There’s something pretty great about knowing your freshman has her big brother on campus, and even better knowing Campbell is surrounded by the best people.

Tonight was all about celebrating the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council and a wonderful year of leadership, service and friendships. These teens have spent the past year serving Ohio 4-H members across the state, and it was so nice to celebrate all they have accomplished.

A special moment for our family tonight as Campbell was sworn in as the new President of the Ohio 4-H Teen Leadership Council!
And did you know 4-H turns 125 years old in 2027? What an exciting time to be involved in Ohio 4-H and such a special year ahead to celebrate its history, impact and the generations of young people who have called 4-H home.

Meanwhile, back at home, Parker has been holding down the fort and taking care of ALL the animals. He’s been working overtime with Campbell gone and Jack busy with all of his usual activities. It definitely takes the whole crew around here!

And another big event this weekend, Sam made it home from his summer internship in LA! After a summer of everyone going in different directions, at least all four kids are finally in the same state again! We’ll call that a win.

What a beautiful evening celebrating Olivia and Caleb!

I first met Olivia and her family years ago when she ran for the Ohio Lamb & Wool Queen, and it has been such a pleasure watching her grow into the wonderful young woman she is today. Seeing her now begin this next chapter, while also building a career in agriculture, makes it even more special.

Congratulations to such a beautiful couple! We loved celebrating with you, catching up with so many friends, and enjoying such a gorgeous venue. Wishing Olivia and Caleb a lifetime of happiness together!

BIG, BIG day in our house!

Today we moved Campbell into her dorm at The Ohio State University!

And I have to say…move-in day was actually FUN. Campbell is part of the Mount Leadership Society Scholars Program, which meant we got the VIP move-in treatment. And WOW, talk about a well-oiled machine! From unloading our truck to getting everything right up to her room, they had it figured out. Absolutely delightful.

The girls got their room all set up and it is SO cute. We somehow managed to fit all the things, make the beds, organize the closets and get her settled into her new home.

Then we had a family/student Mount program together, and just like that…off she went to dinner with what I’m sure will be lots of new friends.

There are definitely some feelings that come with a day like today. But more than anything, I’m just so excited for her. This is what we raised them for, to grow up, chase big things, meet new people and build a life of their own.

What an adventure ahead.

Have the BEST time, Campbell. We are so proud of you.

Go Bucks!

And just like that… Jack’s LAST first day of high school!

There’s a whole lot of sentiment wrapped up in these “lasts,” but I’m trying to remember, these are the days we have been preparing them for. And there is SO much good stuff still ahead!

Senior year kicked off with Senior Sunrise, friends and donuts… which seems like a pretty great way to start.

So many exciting things to come this year, and we can’t wait to cheer Jack on through all of it!

And scroll to see little kindergarten Jack. Even though I didn’t know him then, I swear it feels like I’ve known him forever.

Here’s to senior year, Jack! Let’s make it a good one!

Happy 17th Birthday, Parker! ❤️

How in the world are you 17 already?!

You have always done things your own way, and I wouldn’t have it any other way. You work hard, you love anything with an engine, you’d rather be outside than just about anywhere, and you are always ready for the next project, job or adventure.

You keep us laughing, you definitely keep us on our toes, and every once in a while you even keep us guessing.

I love watching you find your own path and become such a hardworking, independent young man. We are so proud of you, Parker, and so excited to see where life takes you.

Happy 17th Birthday to one of my very favorite people. We love you so much!

And just like that…another Ohio State Fair is in the books.

And what a BANNER year it was for our family!

It was chaotic, exhausting, exciting and so much fun. Campbell, Jack and Parker kept us running with sheep, chickens, turkeys, ducks, ribbons, banners, early mornings, late nights and a whole lot of trips back and forth across the fairgrounds.

This one was extra special. Campbell wrapped up her final year as a Junior Fair exhibitor, and we got to watch Nancy (my mother-in-law) be inducted into the Ohio Agriculture Hall of Fame. Two pretty big milestones for our family in one fair!

But more than anything, we leave feeling thankful. Thankful for the people who show up for our kids and ALL the 4-H youth across Ohio. The volunteers, advisors, friends, families and agriculture community who cheer them on, teach them, encourage them and give them opportunities to grow.

The ribbons and banners are pretty great…but the people and memories are the very best part.

Our hearts are full, our laundry pile is HUGE, and I think Campbell, Jack, Parker and their parents 😂 could all use a nap.

Thank you, Ohio State Fair. You were a good one!

Guys & Gals Lead Line is always one of our favorite traditions at the Ohio State Fair.

Olive (4) stepped into the ring for her very first Ohio State Fair Lead Line and earned 2nd place in the 4-8 year old division. We couldn’t be more proud of her! She was all smiles, looked absolutely beautiful, and loved every minute in the ring.

A huge thank you to the Martin family for once again allowing us to borrow their beautiful Cotswold ewes. Since our sheep don’t arrive until Wednesday, their kindness makes this special tradition possible each year.

It was also a bittersweet day watching Campbell compete in her final Junior Guys & Gals Lead Line before moving into the adult division next year. She looked so grown up, and it’s hard to believe how quickly these years have gone by.

The day started with another exciting milestone as Campbell interviewed for scholarships with the Ohio Sheep Improvement Association and was honored to receive the Ralph Grimshaw Memorial Scholarship. What an incredible way to kick off the day.

The countdown to college is officially on, and moments like today remind us just how grateful we are for the amazing agriculture community that has encouraged, supported, and celebrated our family every step of the way. Meighan, as always your ability to turn fabric into stylish one of a kind garments is a true gift. I love that we met you all those years ago because of sheep.
