My name is Kristin and I am your typical mom learning to balance this crazy thing we call life! Not only am I the mom of two ornery little farmers but I am a self-proclaimed foodie and a farmer. I enjoy connecting with my friends and readers through recipes and life adventures. On our small farm we raise sheep, poultry, hay and I am the proprietor of a private cooking business, Local Flavor Foods. I enjoy conversations about how our food is raised and take great joy in sharing a little bit about American Agriculture and my crazy life. Bill’s Costco proposal has now hit 5 MILLION views

This whole thing has been so much fun, and we have loved hearing from everyone who has watched, commented, shared it and joined in on the laughs with us.

So how do you celebrate 5 million views and roll into a fun fall weekend?

You keep your day date classy and head to the club.

And by the club, obviously I mean Costco.

Pizza.
Hot dog.
Coke.

We really do love our Mayfield Heights Costco and all of the employees there. They have been such good sports through all of this and make every Costco run a little more fun.

Who knew one trip to Costco would turn into all of this?!

Happy 19th Birthday, Campbell!

It’s hard to believe you’re 19. Watching you grow into the young woman you are today has been one of the greatest joys of our lives. You are strong, determined, hardworking, caring, and never afraid to chase after the things that matter to you.

From the little girl who loved showing animals, large and small, to the young woman who has grown into such a strong leader and advocate for agriculture, you have always put your whole heart into the things you love. Some of our favorite memories are wrapped up in show rings, barns, fairs, early mornings, long days, and all the adventures that came along with them.

This past year has brought so many changes and new beginnings, and we’ve loved watching you step into each one with courage and confidence. From graduating high school to starting your freshman year at Ohio State, you continue to make us proud in more ways than you probably realize.

But beyond all of your accomplishments, what makes us the proudest is simply who you are, your heart, the way you care about others, your love for your family and friends, and the passion you bring to everything you do.

No matter how old you get or where life takes you, you will always be our girl. We will always be here cheering you on, praying for you, and loving you every step of the way.

We hope 19 brings you so much happiness, adventure, laughter, and memories you’ll never forget. We love you more than words can say.

All these cutie teens are out here doing their HoCo proposals… and I jokingly told Bill I wanted a sign too.

Well, my husband sure knows how to show me he loves me…

Forget HoCo… will you go to COSTCO?

Obviously I said YES.

And no Costco date is complete without lunch at the club — the iconic hot dog and Coke combo. 🌭🥤 If you’ve never experienced it, you’re missing out on some seriously fine dining.

Forget flowers. Give me a homemade proposal sign, bulk shopping, and a Costco hot dog and Coke.

Costco I feel like this relationship deserves some recognition.

BABY LAMBS ARE EVERYWHERE!

It’s officially lambing season in our barn, and there are little lambs everywhere!

We raise Horned Dorset sheep, a breed known for their ability to breed out of season, which means fall lambs are pretty normal around here. This fall, we had 23 ewes (mama sheep) bred, and we’re already down to just 8 ewes left to lamb!

And we aren’t finished yet! We’re also breeding 8 more ewes to have lambs from December through February.

Since we get lots of questions about lambing season, here are a few fun facts you might not know:

🐑 Do the mamas need help having their babies?
Most of the time, no! Our ewes usually deliver their lambs completely on their own. We keep a close eye on them, but sheep are pretty amazing mamas.

🐑 How quickly can a newborn lamb stand?
FAST! Most lambs are working to get on their feet within just a few minutes of being born. Before long, they’re wobbling around looking for Mom.

What do baby lambs eat?
Their first and most important food is their mama’s milk. Right after birth, we want them nursing so they receive that important first milk called colostrum.

When do they start eating real food?
Even while they’re still nursing, we begin offering creep feed when they’re young. Creep feed is a specially formulated lamb-grower pellet that gives growing lambs extra nutrition. Think of it a little like baby cereal for lambs!

One of our favorite things about raising sheep is watching just how quickly these tiny newborns grow. One minute they’re wobbly little babies learning to stand…and before we know it, they’re racing and bouncing around the barn.

This is a fun one!

We’re breeding sheep people at heart, but we do dabble in the market lamb world at the county fair. And let me tell you, it is a competitive industry! We are incredibly proud of the lambs our kids exhibited this year and especially proud to have worked with Matt Shannon since he first started his Club Lamb endeavors.

Matt has been such a valuable resource to our kids over the years, helping with feeding, nutrition, exercise, and all the little details that go into getting a lamb ready for the show ring. We are especially proud that he raised this pretty cool sheep!

We had a really nice set of lambs this year, but working five market lambs is not for the faint of heart. It takes a whole lot of time, patience, and dedication from everyone involved.

We cannot say enough about Matt and the time he has invested in our kids. From driving out to see us to answering questions and helping them learn, he has been there since Campbell was first in 4-H. We are so grateful for the knowledge, encouragement, and friendship he has shared with our family.

What a special way for Campbell to complete her Junior Fair career at the Great Geauga County Fair. We are proud of the accomplishments, but even more grateful for the people who have helped our kids grow along the way.

First day of 11th grade for our Parker!

Today, Parker heads back to ACE Academy, and I can hardly believe we have a junior in high school. What a year it has been for this young man!

Last year, Parker made the decision to switch schools so he could become a member of FFA. He joined ACE Academy’s first-year chapter and stepped right into the role of president. He has taken that opportunity and run with it, learning, leading, and finding ways to make a difference.

At the end of the school year, his teacher went on maternity leave, but she made sure Parker had the opportunity to earn his Greenhand FFA Degree, an award for first-year FFA members. He became the first student in Geauga County to receive this honor and was presented with his award at the county fair this past weekend. We are so proud of him and grateful for a teacher who invested in his success.

And because Parker never seems to do anything halfway, he also helped kick off the first-ever Geauga County Junior Fair Livestock Judging Contest this past weekend! Watching him take an idea, work through the details, and bring it to life was one of those moments that makes a parent’s heart burst.

Parker is our worker, our equipment operator, and the kid who is happiest when he has a job to do. Last year, he studied welding, and this year he will be in ACE Academy’s diesel engine program. He is learning so much from the incredible people who take the time to teach him, trust him, and invest in him. To each of you who has given him an opportunity, shared your knowledge, or encouraged him along the way, thank you. You are helping shape the young man he is becoming.

And then there is the part I am still trying to wrap my head around… my baby is 6’4”! He may be a big kid, but he will always be my sweet young man.

Parker, we are so proud of your work ethic, your leadership, and the way you continue to grow. I cannot wait to see what junior year brings. Keep working hard, keep learning, and keep being you.

What a week at the Great Geauga County Fair!

This year was especially meaningful as Campbell completed her final year showing in the Junior Fair. We are so proud of Campbell, Parker, and Jack for their hard work, leadership, and the teamwork that makes showing livestock a family project. The ribbons are wonderful, but the memories and lessons mean even more.

We were thrilled to bring home some exciting honors:

🏆 Reserve Grand Champion Market Lamb
🏆 Grand Champion Pen of Meat Rabbits
🏆 Grand Champion Bantam Call Duck and Overall Waterfowl
🏆 Champion Ram
🏆 Champion Ewe
🏆 Supreme Ewe

Our pigs also had a great week in competitive classes, including one that made it to the final drive!

Beyond the show ring, Parker helped organize Geauga County’s first Junior Fair Livestock Judging Contest, welcoming 64 contestants. Thank you to Dr. Meagan Hoffman (Ohio 4-H new State Leader), Dr. Travis Hoffman, the Great Geauga County Fair, ACE Academy FFA, Berkshire FFA, and everyone who made it possible.

We celebrated America’s 250th birthday as Campbell retired her Fair Queen crown, and Jack coordinated a square dance with Dan Kirk that brought hundreds of kids together. Campbell also had the opportunity to ask gubernatorial candidate Vivek Ramaswamy about keeping young people in Ohio and agriculture’s role in our state’s future.

Having Sam home from college to support everyone, and enjoy some steak on a stick, made the week even better!

A special shoutout to our friend Matthew, our honorary “family manager.” Between five shows at once, sheltering in place, and welcoming 12 baby lambs while at the fair, he kept us organized, fed, hydrated, and positive. We couldn’t have done it without you. You are the best!

Thank you to our family, friends, exhibitors, volunteers, buyers, and everyone who supports the Junior Fair. Campbell, Parker, and Jack, we are so proud of you. Campbell, this chapter may be closing, but the friendships, work ethic, and love of agriculture will last a lifetime.
