Kristin Local-Farm-Mom Local Farm Mom
Coffee drinking, kid chasing mom. Love all things food/farm & have mastered the art o Hello!

My name is Kristin and I am your typical mom learning to balance this crazy thing we call life! Not only am I the mom of two ornery little farmers but I am a self-proclaimed foodie and a farmer. I enjoy connecting with my friends and readers through recipes and life adventures. On our small farm we raise sheep, poultry, hay and I am the proprietor of a private cooking business, Local Flavor Foods.

I enjoy conversations about how our food is raised and take great joy in sharing a little bit about American Agriculture and my crazy life. Come follow me on social media or you may just run into me at school pickup, pass me driving a tractor down the road or shopping at the grocery store. It’s a crazy way of life but I can not imagine it any other way.

From Sacramento to Napa, through the redwoods, and all the way to Crescent City, we’ve had quite the adventure.

The marine layer is so thick we can’t see a thing. Somewhere out there is an ocean, but currently we’re taking the locals’ word for it.

Tonight’s dinner consisted of pizza straight out of the box paired with Napa wine served in plastic cups. We don’t have plates, we don’t have napkins.

Our door barely shuts, the walls are thin enough that we’ve unintentionally become part of our neighbors’ evening plans, and as we settle in for the night, we’re adding one final item to our list:

Let’s hope the water works tomorrow morning.

And honestly? It might be one of my favorite moments of the whole trip.

Because years from now, I won’t remember every highway mile, winery, or scenic overlook. I’ll remember laughing over pizza out of the box, drinking Napa wine from plastic cups, listening to the foghorns in the distance, and realizing that the best travel memories usually don’t happen at the fancy places.

Tomorrow we head east toward Idaho, but tonight we’re embracing the fact that some of life’s best stories start with a motel full of character and a box of pizza.

Marine layer: 100%
Visibility: 0%
Plates: 0
Napkins: 0
Confidence in tomorrow’s shower: Questionable
Pizza: Excellent
Wine: Napa quality
Memories: 10/10

Summer is in full swing around here!

In just a few short weeks, our kids have been busy with trap shooting, Ohio 4-H Achievement Awards, bull riding, camps, livestock projects, and now SPARK Junior RA responsibilities.

Meanwhile, Bill and I flew west for Ohio Farm Bureau meetings in California. I’ve enjoyed exploring California agriculture, learning a few new things, and catching up with friends along the way.

We’re especially grateful for the friends, family, and coworkers who step up to help keep everything moving while we’re away. It truly takes a village this time of year!

I’ll share more of my California adventures soon.

🍓 Imagine 55 years ago...
It was 1971 the date was June 10th.
Jim Patterson was a county commissioner, a full-time farmer, and a dad to three young children, a 4-year-old daughter, a 2-year-old son, and a 10 day old baby boy (who just happens to be my husband today!).
Nancy Patterson was home with those three little ones, and right in the middle of all that, the strawberries were ripe and ready to be picked.
A few days ago, I asked Nancy if she had any photos from that very first Pick-Your-Own strawberry opening day.
Her response?
“Life was a little hectic back then, and I don’t recall taking any photos that day.”
Honestly, that’s probably all we need to know.
🍓 No cell phones.
🍓 No Facebook updates.
🍓 No websites.
🍓 No strawberry hotline.
🍓 No weather apps.
🍓 No GPS.
Just a young family trying to raise three little kids, serve their community, farm the land, and welcome customers to a brand-new strawberry field.
There were diapers to change, berries to pick, customers to help, and fields to tend. There wasn’t much time for photos.
But 55 years later, we’re sure glad they made the time to start a tradition.
Today, families are still making memories in those strawberry fields. Generations have returned year after year with containers in hand, carrying on something that began with Jim and Nancy, three young children, and a field full of ripe strawberries.
Here’s to 55 years of Patterson strawberries, sweet summer memories, and a family tradition that continues to grow.

The ceremony is over, the barn party was everything she hoped it would be.

For 18 years, Campbell has kept us on our toes. She has never been one to sit on the sidelines. Whether it was 4-H projects, livestock shows, leadership conferences, school activities, community service, or chasing one more opportunity, she was always all in.

What makes us the proudest isn’t the awards, titles, scholarships, or accomplishments, though there have been many. It’s the person she has become. She works hard, leads with kindness, loves deeply, and isn’t afraid to step outside her comfort zone to make a difference.

As parents, we have had a front-row seat to a pretty incredible journey, but we also know she didn’t get here alone. We are thankful for the teachers, advisors, coaches, mentors, friends, family members, and community who invested their time, encouragement, and belief in her.

This fall she’ll head to The Ohio State University and join Sam in Columbus. While we’re excited for this next adventure, we’d be lying if we said we aren’t going to miss seeing her walk through the door every day, hearing about her latest project, or watching her race from one commitment to the next.

For now, we’re just soaking it all in and feeling incredibly blessed.

Congratulations, Campbell. We love you, we’re proud of you, and we’re excited to see what God has in store for you next.

Happy Anniversary, Bill!

Nothing says anniversary quite like spending the day between graduation parties and Jack’s rodeo.

Turns out marriage is a lot like bull riding. you hang on tight, expect a few bumps, laugh through the chaos, and hope everyone walks away without injuries!

Here’s to another year of riding through life together. And here’s hoping Jack gets his 8-second ride tonight!

And just like that… it’s a wrap on Campbell’s high school years.

Today is officially the last day. Senior internship complete, final video submitted, CCP transcripts sent on to The Ohio State University, and now we shift into celebration mode.

This weekend we celebrate her, and next week she walks across the stage. It’s hard to believe how quickly these years went. So proud of all she has accomplished and even more excited for what’s ahead.

Buckeye Bound and ready for the next chapter. ❤️
