Harvest in Burgundy 🇫🇷🍇

Michael is back in Burgundy for harvest, and today it’s all about Maison Dieu. From picking in the vineyard to freshly harvested fruit coming in, the 2026 vintage is officially underway.

Same vine. Same vintage. Two very different stages of ripening. 🍇

This is Petit Verdot from our estate vineyard at Harris Creek, showing a great example of primary and secondary fruit on the same vine.

The larger, dark cluster is primary fruit, the main crop that developed and ripened earlier in the season. The smaller cluster is secondary fruit, which formed later and is still catching up, with berries ranging from green to purple as they move through véraison.

It’s a pretty perfect snapshot of what’s happening in the vineyard as we get closer to harvest, and a reminder that even on a single vine, not everything ripens at the same pace.

Governor Abigail Spanberger’s trade mission to Europe with Virginia Secretary of Agriculture Katie Frazier included a stop in Paris to promote Virginia to current and prospective trade partners.

We were honored to represent Virginia agriculture by pouring three of our wines—Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, and Méthode—for guests at the reception. It was a privilege to showcase the quality and craftsmanship of Virginia wine while celebrating the enduring friendship between France and the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Thank you to Governor Spanberger, Secretary Frazier, and the Virginia Department of Agriculture for the opportunity to represent Michael Shaps Wineworks and Virginia wine on an international stage.
