2 years and 10 months is when you start working second shift on the farm, if anyone is wondering! 😅

This little farmHER got out of bed at 5:30, went to daycare all day, came home, ate dinner, fed her bottle calves, filled grain buckets for tomorrow and then cried to go haul litter with her daddy instead of going to bed. I think this is what they mean when they say farming is in your blood. 💕

Y’all meet Fergie, the happiest accident I’ve ever met!

Let me just tell you her story. Rovi, her mom, is my heart cow, she has been since the day we brought her home. She’ll cross a whole pasture for some scratches from me and was the most patient girl in the world while I fumbled my way around halter for the first time.

Last year, I bought some super fancy Brahman semen and was fixing to AI her for her first calf. She and another heifer were in a small pen by themselves to keep them away from the bull. You know what happened? Ferdinand jumped the woven wire fence and bred her anyway! I was so mad! Firstly, it was brand new fence. Secondly, that was completely out of character for him. Not one other time ever had he not respected a fence.

Fast forward to January, when Ferdinand died unexpectedly.. it took me a couple days to remember the fence incident and from that second on I started praying like crazy for a heifer calf. In fact I prayed so hard I just knew it was going to be a bull calf 😅 Last evening right at dusk, when it was just too dark to tell for sure, this little girl came into the world.. so I had to wait all night for confirmation that she is, in fact, a heifer!!

One of my favorite things about farming is the constant reminders of two things: His plan is greater than ours, and all in His timing.

Welcome home, little girl, we’re SO glad you’re here!💕💕

If you scroll through our page, you’ll notice that political stances aren’t part of our usual routine. But, this hits too close to home not to address. I was full of both excitement and frustration when I saw this post yesterday.

Let’s start with the good news.. we are so excited to have jumped on board with VPGC at the beginning of such a great investment in our local agricultural community! It makes us proud to grow for an organization who values their producers and works hard to give us the resources we need to provide great product to our customers. Change is never an easy thing, but we feel confident we made the right choice with VPGC.

But on the flip side, isn’t it awful serendipitous that Governor Spanberger would show up to a high steaks AG event the week before an election that stands to essentially disenfranchise farmers in The Valley? The proposed redistricting map would split Augusta County into three separate congressional districts taking our small constituent share of about 10% down to less than 4%. We already have a small voice, but we have our best chance of being heard because our congressional district encompasses a large portion of farms in the Valley. Our community faces issues that are very different from Charlottesville and Lynchburg, who would be our new district cohorts. We hope if you value your friends and neighbors, many of whom are farmers, you’ll join us in voting NO on April 21.

Here is the link to the VPAP, a great nonpartisan source, site with information about the redistricting proposal. You can even plug in your address to see how the proposed new districts would affect you. https://www.vpap.org/redistricting/2026/

Thank you to Governor Abigail Spanberger, her cabinet, and members of the state and local government for joining us to break ground on this exciting project! We are thrilled to begin a new chapter of growth supporting agriculture here in the Shenandoah Valley and the Commonwealth of Virginia!
