The undervalued life of a rooster💔 If people spent more time with their roosters as they did their dogs, maybe their experience would be different.
I haven’t had the terrible experiences people share and I have had over 200 roosters at this point…maybe more.
I don’t know what I am missing here. They are the first ones to say hello to me, the only ones eager to have a conversation, they enjoy snuggles, dance for me, find me treats, let me know when something isn’t right on the property, let me know when it is time for bed, and they take care of my hens and fertilize eggs to make incredibly adorable chicks. Their feathers are more colorful and beautiful.
What. Am. I. Missing?
They can be aggressive? I’ve been scratched worse by my hens.
I must spend A LOT more time with my chickens than the average person because I just don’t understand all of the “attack”stories.
I encourage everyone to spend MORE time with their cockerels and their roosters. Hold them, pet them, talk to them, massage them, make sure you can touch every part of their body without issue. You will thank me later when you have to treat them for an injury or illness.
My black Ameraucana cockerel is turning out to be a sweetheart! He is one of Jaxon’s babies and I just adore him.
I had one customer who bought two of my young cockerels and I have added photos she sent me. She is absolutely loving them and impressed by how handsome, sweet, and entertaining they are. They are Augustus and Zeus.
Everyone should have two roosters for every six hens to make sure the lead rooster has backup and doesn’t get overstressed about leading. If the boys ever need to be separated, a second coop with each having three ladies is one option or another option is a large crate or built pen that is nearby so he can assist in watching for predators.
Love your boys…they are essential for our flocks. Remember…you would never be able to enjoy all of those adorable baby chicks if it wasn’t for roosters.
