Meet Backwoods Barbie💕🌸

Another one of our dahlia seedlings has officially earned herself a name — and honestly, I don't think anything else would fit her quite as well. 😂

She’s bright, ruffled, a little wild around the edges, and absolutely not interested in being subtle.

Every dahlia we grow from seed is a brand-new genetic combination, so this bloom is completely unique. Now comes the fun part: we’ll keep watching her through the season, save her tubers, and grow her again next year to see if she keeps giving us this same gorgeous color and wonderfully messy personality.

If she does, Backwoods Barbie may just become an official Blooming Woods girl. 💗

Pretty enough for the flower patch… but you just know she owns a pair of muddy boots. 😂🌸

A little peek at what’s blooming in our Pick Your Own patch right now 🌸🌻💐

The flowers are absolutely showing off — dahlias, sunflowers, celosia, snapdragons, marigolds, cosmos, and zinnias in just about every color you can imagine. 😍

Unfortunately, Mother Nature has other plans at the moment. We’ve had what feels like **nonstop rain**, and our county is dealing with some pretty serious flooding. Our thoughts are with everyone dealing with flooded roads, homes, farms, and fields right now. ❤️

So for now, the flowers are getting a VERY thorough drink. 😂🌧️

But as soon as we get our next pleasant, dry day, we’d LOVE to open the farm for Pick Your Own flowers! ✂️🌸 There is something pretty magical about wandering through the rows and choosing exactly which blooms get to come home with you.

Keep an eye on our page — when the weather finally gives us a break, we may just announce a little “The Sun Is Out, Come Pick Flowers!” day. ☀️💐

Okay… this one stopped me in my tracks. 😍🌸

I grew this dahlia from seed, which means this exact flower has never existed before. And I am a little obsessed with her.

The color is gorgeous, the stem is beautiful, and LOOK at those petals! Instead of laying flat, they sweep backward around that bright little center like she’s got somewhere to be. 😂

The really cool part? Since this is my own seedling, I can save the tubers, keep growing her, and—if she continues to perform consistently over the next few seasons—eventually name and release her as a Blooming Woods dahlia. 🥹

So this little lady is officially going into our breeding trial. I’ll save her tubers this fall, grow her again next year, and see if she keeps giving us that same funky petal shape, strong stem, beautiful color and overall sass.

I’m also going to save some seeds from her because apparently growing one mystery dahlia wasn’t enough and now I need to see what her children look like too. 😂

And obviously… she needs a temporary name.

Right now I’m kind of loving BW Backtalk because those petals are literally going backwards and she looks like she has an attitude. 😂

But with Reagan and Kennedy around here, I feel like there are LOTS of possibilities.

🌸 I THINK WE GOT ONE!! 🌸

This whole row of dahlias was grown completely from seed, which means every single plant is a little genetic surprise. So far, most of the blooms have been open-centered, anemone-style flowers… but THIS one just showed up. 👀

Could this be our first little ball-type dahlia?! 😍

She’s still opening, so we’re going to keep a very close eye on her over the next few days and see what she turns into. If she keeps this beautiful shape, you better believe we’ll be saving this tuber and growing her again next year!

This is honestly one of my favorite parts of growing dahlias from seed—you never know when you might stumble across something really special. 🌱✨

🥚 DUCK EGGS AVAILABLE! 🦆🌿

We have fresh duck eggs available from our free-ranging flock!

These beauties come courtesy of our big ol’ Jumbo Pekin ladies — Aurora, Flora, Fauna, Mary Whether, and Edna — along with their Magpie girlfriend, Maggie. 😂🖤🤍

Duck eggs are rich, creamy, and AMAZING for baking. Cakes, cookies, breads, brownies… they give baked goods that extra little something. 😋

Our girls spend their days free-ranging around the farm, doing important duck business and apparently keeping us well supplied with eggs.

Happy National Watermelon Day! 🍉

The girls have been proudly growing this adorable little watermelon, and they are SO excited watching it get bigger every day! It’s long, cute as can be, and happily hanging out on its trellis like it knows it’s the star of the garden. 😂

There’s just something extra special about watching your kids grow something from a tiny seed and love every minute of it. Now the real challenge will be convincing them to wait until it’s ripe before picking it! 💚🍉

A little handful of summer magic from the flower farm 💜🌸

The lavender lisianthus is showing off, the cosmos are dancing every which way, and those deep purple blooms are adding just the right amount of drama. Honestly, this bouquet feels like a cottage garden decided to dress up for the day. 😍

Every stem was grown right here at Blooming Woods Flower Farm, gathered fresh, and arranged with all the wild, wonky charm that makes locally grown flowers so special.

Well... apparently my truck has decided it's part of the flower farm now. 😂🌸

Somehow this little celosia found just enough soil in the bed of the truck to sprout and start growing all on its own! Leave it to a flower farmer to accidentally start a mobile garden. 🚚🌱

My little helper spotted it right away and insisted we couldn't leave it there, so we carefully transplanted it into the garden where it'll have a much better chance to thrive. ❤️

I guess flowers really do grow anywhere when they're determined!

Well... this wasn't on today's farm bingo card! 😂

I spotted this little guy with his head stuck in the hardware cloth on the duck coop. At first I thought he was just frozen in fear, so I gave him some space and came back a little while later.

He was still there. 🥺

So, after a little careful snipping, I was able to free his tiny head, and off he went on his next adventure. ❤️

Looks like I have one more project to add to the to-do list... patching the hardware cloth before one of his cousins decides to try the same thing! 😅

Life on the farm is never boring. Even the smallest critters deserve a helping hand.

Has anyone else ever had to rescue a tiny wild visitor? 🐭💚🌸
