Garlic scapes just came into season and are great blitzed into a pesto or charred on the grill. Green garlic season is fleeting, so use it in soups or compound butters to keep the season going. Chive blossoms bring a soft chive flavor to salads, butters, or a quick pink vinegar.

A whole family worth getting to know 🌱🧄

It’s more important than ever to know where your food is coming from, who grew it, and how it got to you.

Asking those questions is how you get closer to the food that ends up on your table, and closer to the people growing it.

Know your farmer, know your food 💚

Our case for a slow weeknight dinner: Apricots that taste like apricots, ramp butter on every radish you can get your hands on, prosciutto in unrespectable quantities, bread you’d fight over, and kombucha because your gut deserves nice things too.

A spring thing we love: chive blossoms 💜🌱

Our friends at Vannini Farms are bringing these beautiful blooms to you. The florets have a softer chive flavor than the greens themselves. Sprinkle them over salads, soups, and compound butters, or pack a jar with the blooms and cover in vinegar for a chive blossom vinegar that’s ready in a week or two.

We’ve been adding them to everything this spring, and just setting them out on the table in a vase for a little spring pop!

When you shop for groceries, do you ever think about how much of your purchase actually goes back to the farmer?

It’s something we think about all the time, and a big reason why we started Farm to People. The national average is that farmers earn just 13 cents on every food dollar. We wanted to help change that by building a shorter, more transparent supply chain that puts more money back into the hands of the people growing the food.

Fresh porcini mushrooms are here and it’s kind of a big deal. Most people only ever encounter porcini dried, because fresh ones are notoriously hard to find and are truly a treasure. These come from with that rich nutty flavor and meaty texture that makes them one of the most prized mushrooms in the world. Quick sauté in butter with garlic and herbs, fold them into a risotto, or layer them over pasta. A rare one. Here while we have them!

Late spring is here and the lineup is shifting fast. What was popping up two weeks ago is on its way out, and a whole new wave is just getting started. 🍓🥒

This is what eating seasonally actually looks like: not one long “spring,” but a series of micro seasons stacking on top of each other, each lasting just a few weeks. Strawberries are starting, asparagus will be winding down, and garlic scapes are right around the corner.

Local and seasonal is a moving target, and that’s kind of the whole point. Catch things while they’re here and savor them until next year!
