Cracked a new bottle tonight.. World Whiskey Society 8 year, great pour after a looooong week. The nose is leathery with hints of to***co, the high proof and rye hits early and the palate brings a little honey & cacao forward. The finish hits a with a lingering aged oak and dare I say buttery chilli? Great selection from The Whiskey Library

Tonight’s fresh crack is a Whiskey Library single barrel bourbon pick from Barrell Craft Spirits. I get butterscotch, caramel, oaky spiciness and lingering anise tones, in other words an excellent pour.

Rich amber tones of this 2025 Maker’s Mark Keeper’s release nicely reflect the sweet palette of toasted marshmallows ending with a short lingering soft caramel. Dinner was a culotte steak grilled over coals.

Today’s fresh crack.. Ponfeigh distillery Westsylvania Cask Strength Rye, 95% Monongahela Rye. I found this lonely bottle on the shelf on Jonestown rd (Harrisburg) FWGS this morning. Heard good things, so decided to grab it. Definitely worth it, has a nice light grassiness to it, high proof bites at first, but then the sweetness settles in and lingers as the heat subsides…finish is a lingering licorice gift.

Fun afternoon, and your youngest chooses a bottle to crack. A great choice of the Rare Character Single barrel Whiskey Library barrel pick. It’s a little light initially on the nose and palette, but the lingering finish more than makes up for it on the next sip.

Tonight’s pour with my Braai is a Ben Holladay soft Red Wheat Bourbon from Holladay Distillery. Nose is Honey and a little fruity, palette is a little grassy but sweet with a nice medium duration syrup finish and a little lingering heat down the throat.

High West Distillery, The Prisoner’s Share is the warm up to today’s braai. It’s a blend of Straight whiskeys, finished in The Prisoner Red blend wine casks. A perfect accompaniment to a fantastic Center cut NY Strip from Bow Creek Farm - Red Angus Beef & Cattle, and a braaibroodjie.

Decided to check the hype..

It is a tasty pour that does not last long on the palate. It’s very sharp and clean, with a nice sweet oaky palate, but a very short lived finish. Last bottle on the shelf in Palmyra.
