There are few places more beautiful during harvest than Block 22, where our iconic Ancestor Tree stands overlooking the vines of our Paso Robles Estate. 🌳🍇

As we move into the back half of , here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how this year’s Block 22 Syrah is making its journey from vine to barrel.

The grapes are sorted and destemmed before heading into 100% new French oak barrels for fermentation, where gentle punchdowns help extract color, flavor, and structure while the w**e pulls in the toasted character of the oak.

Soon, we’ll gather once again for our annual Ancestor Dinner on October 17, an evening inspired by the storied Ancestor Tree and the flagship w**e that bears its name. Tickets are available now. We hope you’ll join us! 🥂

Meet Landon, a Halter Ranch Conservation Scholar ( ) who spent his summer getting hands-on conservation experience with Scott River Watershed Council and Bigfoot Trail Alliance.

Landon’s work focused on meadow inventory, and he captured more than 19,000 raw images to inform restoration efforts. Meadow systems are rich in biodiversity, providing habitats for a huge varieties of wild plants and animals, but droughts and other factors can make them less welcoming. Landon and his mentors built beaver dams and studied wildlife patterns in the area, creating a better understanding of how to bring life back to the meadows that need it most.

He also spotted some surprising critters along the way. 👀 🐍

Meet Natalie and Finn, two Halter Ranch Conservation Scholars ( ) who made The Wildlands Conservancy their classroom this summer!

At the Rana Creek Preserve, Natalie and Finn conducted vegetation surveys and monitored efforts to control cattle grazing through virtual fencing via solar-powered collars. The goal: Gather data that the Wildlands Conservancy and CAL FIRE can use to conduct controlled burns and prevent wildfires.

They also surveyed dam structure locations for future beaver placements designed to aid in restoration.

It was a summer of hands-on learning for these Cal Poly Bailey College of Science & Mathematics students, and we were honored to support their efforts through the Halter Ranch Conservation Scholars program!

From the classroom to the field and back together again, the inaugural class of Halter Ranch Conservation Scholars (HARCS) spent the year learning, exploring, and putting conservation into practice.

Created in partnership with the Cal Poly Bailey College of Science and Mathematics, the HARCS program prepares the next generation of environmental leaders through immersive, hands-on education and meaningful partnerships with organizations working to understand, preserve, and protect our natural world.

The program unfolds across three phases:
🌱 Spring Seminar: Scholars explore conservation through weekly classroom sessions and field experiences at reserves and natural areas across San Luis Obispo County.
☀️ Summer Internship: Scholars put their learning into practice through internships with conservation organizations, contributing to real-world projects, from collecting data and monitoring ecosystems to building maps and creating tools for their host organizations.
🍂 Fall Symposium: The journey culminates at the Halter Ranch Estate, where scholars present their summer projects and share their experiences alongside alumni, mentors, and conservation partners.

We’re proud to support these emerging environmental leaders and the conservation community they’re helping build. 🌎

About last night! We were honored to host the latest edition of the Whole Foods Market x Cherry Bombe Supper Club Series here at Halter Ranch! More to come on this fabulous event, which featured a multi-course dinner and a panel discussion about regenerative agriculture, but we couldn’t help sharing these photo booth snaps first!
