Celebrating our team today… As many of you know Zone 7’s farm to school roots go way back… In 2008 (the same year I started Zone 7), Beth Feehan and I, along with food service managers and farmers, began gathering stakeholders to start a conversation. That was the beginning of the NJ Farm to School Network. While I was focused on establishing Zone 7, Beth remained focused on Farm to School. And I just want to say that we are all grateful that she did. That seed grew and grew and has now transformed and grown into something unimaginable. Local farm supply, more state support, a distribution network, a food service companies and managers ready and willing (and now growing in experience) working with all these great products our region has to offer yet. We’re not there yet. All aspects of the farm to school system are a work in progress.. We still need sustainable State of NJ support, our farms can always be tweaking what they are doing, and the distribution and cooking side of it will grow too, along with continued education of the student and eaters.
But let’s take a moment to say, Great job everyone. And thank you Beth! 👏 You should be very proud.
Here’s to continuing to grow Farm to School!
