🌾Grazing Update🌾

🌵IT’S BEEN DRY🌵

The sheep are still out grazing, but the pastures are starting to look pretty bleak.

As we graze through our more creative spots, I figured I would talk a little bit about a pasture renovation project we have been working on this spring. This project came from support from the Wisconsin Farmer Union, so a big shoutout and thanks to them!

THE SYSTEM WORKS!!

We’ve had all of about one measurable rain all of July, and things were starting to look bleak, but the rotational grazing has kept us right on track. We keep moving through paddocks that have had plenty of rest and haven’t lost one day of grazing yet due to the lack of rain.

Am I saying we have a perfect system? Heck no… but as I reflect on previous years I’m happy to see how far we have come.

It’s been a hot and dry July, but the views from this office never do get old! Hoping for some rain soon..

We just came in from processing lambs and it hit me that I was sad for some reason. I realized that reason is because my Pippa girl was not apart of the group 💔Very grateful for the lambs we retained and I know she went to a good home, but I’ll always wonder! So here’s a throwback to my very lovable and feisty girl Pippa 🥰

We had to send in the “cleanup crew” after having our big walnut tree taken down yesterday.

The girls got their toes done! 💅

We did a little feet trimming the past few nights after getting the kiddos to bed. All the lambs have been weaned, so all mamas and our 12 yearling ewes that are hopefully now bred🤞🏽, are now processed and out on pasture!

We’ll be tagging babies this week and going through our list and contacting anyone interested in ram or ewe lambs and possibly some mature ewes.Stay tuned!
