This photo of a more mature Man of Steel makes me think, this is exactly why I kept you. ❤️

The topline shape on Man of Steel is the overall shape I am trying to achieve. He’s a red Rex out of Malbec (the fox doe), and ROR’s Simba, with the late ROR’s Superman behind him. I named him Man of Steel as a nod to Superman.

I really liked Simba from the first time we saw him last September, and I’m fortunate to now co-own him with KKH Rabbitry and Homestead. Man of Steel has only made me more excited about what that line can contribute here. He will look even better once he's in coat!

Right now I have two Man of Steel daughters in the barn that I’m planning to grow out — a red doe and a castor doe — and I’m very interested to see how they develop. But early on - it looks like MOS is stamping the topline shape and some depth.

And on that note… I really wasn’t planning on moving anything right now. 😂 But we are a smaller rabbitry, new litters keep coming, and grow-out holes are precious. Someone is pretty much always on the chopping block as the next generation needs space.

Closer to October, I will likely have a few Rex that can move along to new barns. I’ll share more once I’ve had more time to evaluate everyone and decide who is staying here.

Almost a year ago, I had my very first Holland Lop litters — and I really had no idea just how much this breed was going to teach me.

I did what I always do when I decide I want to learn something: I dove in. I read the standard, joined groups, studied every photo I could find — good examples, not-so-good examples, and everything in between. I watched videos, listened to breeders, and tried to train my eye.

I was originally drawn to Hollands because I wanted a breed with a little more longevity in the show barn. Rex will always be my first breed, and I absolutely love them, but Rex tend to have a much shorter window where they are really at their best.

What I didn't fully appreciate was how different the pace would be.

I am impatient. 😂

With Rex, there is almost always something coming up, something being evaluated, something moving in or out. Hollands have forced me to slow down. They need time. Sometimes a lot of time. And over this past year, I've started to understand why experienced Holland breeders kept telling me, "Just wait."

That slower pace has actually been really good for me — although I have to balance it carefully because I definitely don't have unlimited cage space!

I've had quite a few Holland litters over the past year and have tried to be very selective about which ones earned a grow-out hole. I've culled a lot. I've changed my mind. I've kept some longer than I probably should have and moved others sooner. But little by little, I feel like I'm starting to understand what I'm looking for.

And recently, I hit a milestone I'm pretty excited about: my first litter out of a doe I produced, and another litter sired by a buck I produced. 🥹

This last breeding round, I bred my newest buck, ANR's Fennel, pretty heavily across the herd. I wanted to see what he would consistently contribute and whether the pieces I brought him in for would actually come through in his offspring.

So far, I'm really enjoying watching this little one develop.

Fennel brought in as a herd sire with some traits I didn't feel I had yet, and while this baby still has plenty of growing and changing left to do, I think this might be a small step in the direction I've been trying to go.

Now we're getting ready for another round of breedings aimed at spring juniors, and I'm excited to see what the next generation brings.

One year in — still learning, still studying, still changing my mind constantly 😂 — but I think I'm finally starting to see a little bit of the progress I was hoping for. 🐰❤️

Congrats to Averleigh! She had a big win today at the York State Fair!

Averleigh loves this otter doe so much and takes excellent care of her. Thank you Brooke Sigler for helping Aves get a great start in dwarfs and trusting her with Glam. Thank you to Johnny Haussener for recognizing Glam.🐰

James received really nice comments for his Florida White senior doe Cool Whip. Cool Whip was Best of Breed (by default in open and youth) but is a very nice representation of a Florida White if you have never seen one in person. This is not a common breed for youth in our area- but James is very proud of his small herd.

Stop by the fair to see the kids rabbits on display all week!

✨ Welcome to the barn! ✨

I'm so happy to welcome two new additions to Beach Bunny Rabbitry!

🩶 High Jumps Kona – Lynx Senior Buck
🤍🩶 KKH's Titmouse ("T***y") – Broken Lynx Senior Doe

Both have qualities that I want to incorporate into my Rex program.

Kona won't be wasting any time! He'll be paired with several of my does, including Eclair, Vella, Leona, Ursula, and Sewell. It'll be so much fun watching these litters grow and seeing what each cross produces.

One of my favorite things about Kona is his lovely fur and I also really like his rear view. I'm hopeful those strengths show up in his offspring.

I'm incredibly grateful for the opportunity to add these two to the barn, and I can't wait to see where they help take my breeding program over the next year.

Here's hoping for some babies this summer and fall that push our program forward! ❤️🐇

We had a great day at the Juniata show in Reedsville, PA! ☀️🐰 This is one of our favorite shows to attend each year. The weather was beautiful, the kids played all day, and it was just an enjoyable, relaxing day with rabbit friends.

Most of our regular Rex crew headed to the Blacksburg show, but that gave me the chance to spend the day catching up with other Rex and rabbit friends. One of the best parts of this hobby is seeing everyone and getting a chance to visit between shows. ❤️

We also stocked up on supplies from D&A Bunny Supplies, picked up a new tattoo pen to try, and I'm especially excited to test out the numbing wipes! ✍️🐰

Of course, no trip is complete without a treat! 🍦 We wrapped up the day with ice cream from the Reedsville Creamery before heading back to the cabin.

A little late but-

What a fun day at the Garden State show in Augusta, NJ for Open, Youth, and Florida White Nationals last weekend! The grounds were beautiful, well-kept, and the drive honestly wasn’t too bad. Staying with Claire and grabbing Starbies in the morning definitely completed the weekend ☕✨ Would absolutely love to attend both days next year!

What a great day at the National Capitol Show yesterday in Gaithersburg, MD.🐇✨

Fun fact: it’s the second time Claire and I had the same winning pair of rabbits now dubbed “Chocolate Mousse”.

And congrats to all of my rabbit friends on their wins and placings yesterday—especially Brooke for SWEEPING the dwarf speciality show 🔥

One of the coolest moments of the day was seeing the smoke pearls hit the table in exhibition for the very first time. Kathryn, Claire, and Amber have been working incredibly hard on them, and they were absolutely beautiful. The judges loved them and it was so exciting seeing all that hard work paying off.

Aves got to spend the day playing with her friends, the atmosphere was relaxed, and honestly it was just one of those genuinely fun show days that reminds you why we do this 💜

Next Stop: Augusta, NJ for Florida White Nationals and the Garden State show!
