Well, this definitely wasn’t on the Looney Farm bingo card…

Tonight, we had a helicopter land right next to our pole barn. Yes, an actual helicopter. For a brief moment, we felt way more important than we really are.

About six months ago, the Porters Fire Department asked if they could use one of our fields for firefighter training. We said, “Absolutely!” Never imagining that eventually we’d be standing in our backyard watching a helicopter touch down like we were hosting a VIP arrival.

Fast forward to tonight—the big event finally happened. We invited some new friends and our immediate neighbors, partly to watch the training and partly to prove we weren’t making the whole helicopter thing up.

Of course, because it’s the Looney Farm, Mother Nature decided to throw a major thunderstorm into the mix. But the crew stuck it out, waited for the weather to pass, and flew in anyway. Nothing says dedication like landing a helicopter after a thunderstorm just to visit a bunch of farm folks.

Janice and I truly appreciate everyone who came out. It was great spending time together, seeing friends, meeting neighbors, and pretending for a few minutes that we run a highly classified operation instead of a farm.

After our training in Florida, Janice, Pegleg and I have been super busy getting the farm ready for some summer fun. The place is finally starting to look less like a construction zone and more like something we actually planned.

The Looney Farm is definitely coming together, although our to-do list seems to reproduce faster than rabbits. Every time we cross off one project, three more magically appear. At this point, we’re pretty sure the property is making its own list while we sleep.

This is by far the biggest project Janice and I have ever taken on, and there have been moments when we questioned our sanity, our budget, and my ability to operate a tractor. But seeing everything slowly come together has been incredibly rewarding. We’re exhausted, covered in dirt, and somehow still smiling—which either means we love it or we’ve completely lost our minds. Probably a little of both. 😄🌾🚜

Jason Meador and I have poured countless hours into this project, and it’s incredible to finally see the farmstand coming to life! Every day it gets closer to the vision we had in mind, and now we’re down to the final finishing touches. The excitement is building, and we’re hoping to have everything completed very soon. We can’t wait for everyone to see it!

Such a beautiful night tonight!! This view never gets old!

Several folks have been asking for an update on my giant Foghorn Leghorn project, and I’m happy to report that it has officially evolved from “fun little idea” into “why did I do this to myself?”

So far, I’ve finished printing the feet, nails, head, and beak, and the body is about 95% complete. Apparently, printing a chicken the size of a small farm animal takes a little time. I still have the tail left to print, which I assume will consume the remaining filament in the tri-state area.

After that comes the glamorous phase: priming, sanding, filling, sanding again, questioning my life choices, more sanding, and finally painting. At this point, I’ve spent so much time with this bird that we’re basically family.

Now that the pieces are finally coming together and it’s starting to resemble Foghorn Leghorn instead of a pile of suspicious plastic poultry parts, I’ll be posting more progress pictures soon. It’s been a journey… and honestly, I think the chicken is now judging me.

Unfortunately, our ducks aren’t returning to the coop at night but Jason Meador found their stash today. 17 eggs! Hopefully they will continue to nest here.

This year we are upping our game with the parachute ‘men’. These are keychains that we will attach to parachute men and throw them to the kiddos as we fly over. I am just getting started and will have lots of different ones to collect.

Jason Meador and David Rowland have been super busy over the past couple of weeks with various projects around the farm. We started the farmstand project last year but nearly completed it yesterday. The heavy lifting is done but now it’s time to prime, paint and put some finishing touches.

We will be selling handmade items along with eggs from our amazing chickens. All revenue from the farmstand will be donated to charity and will select various charities throughout the spring, summer and fall.
