Celebrate Urban Ag week with us! Join us for a Growing Healthy Soils workshop on the farm Thursday August 14 from 4-6 pm. Jen Salinetti, Sister Anna Muhammad and youth agricultural scientists from the Tapley Garden in Springfield will demonstrate simple techniques for assessing the health of your soil and building soil health, using the farm as their learning lab. Bring your soil and growing questions and challenges. Light refreshments served. Let us know if you’re coming so we can get a head count!

Spring is finally here! This week we start planting in the ground. The garlic we planted last fall is boldly bursting through the straw mulch. We are anticipating quite the show from Mother Nature this week. The orchard and the trees around the farm should pop if the weather forecasts hold.

Join us this Wednesday October 30 at 4 pm for a discussion about the spotted lantern fly with Ali Shokoohi from UMass Extension. The spotted lantern fly can cause a lot of damage to our outdoor spaces and unfortunately is spreading throughout Springfield and our region. Just recently we have found it on our farm. Ali will help us learn more about this insect, its host plants and how to identify it and respond. Come learn with us - 7 Nordica St. Springfield Thanks to for all their support!

Thanks to the Center for Urban Agriculture at UMass Extension for a lovely evening of learning and community last night. Ali Shokoohi led a session on integrated pest management and beneficial insects. We were able to see several out in the vegetable field enjoying the flower plantings around the farm which are the best way to attract beneficials. It’s been a blessing for us to learn with UMass Extension all season as an Urban Ag Mentor Farm and to share this knowledge with others in our community. Thank you Ibrahim Ali and Olivia Golden for all your support and passion.
